Well, my Polo failed in spectacular fashion on its MOT today (the second attempt in a week after the first garage couldn't get it on their ramps due to 'excessive lowering') with a wheel bearing, THREE brake pipes, a seat belt, two bulbs and a destroyed exhaust. Nothing too major thank god, I was dreading any structual welding and the like but still a fair few items mean it'll be off the road until after Christmas now.
Still in shock of how many items have failed on a car that gets used every day of the week with very little hassle. But whats the worst failure sheet you lot have ever received? Must be someone out there worse than me lol.

My Oxford had three pages of fails, although some of the fail points were written out in a very protracted form and so took up a few lines.

I know that feeling well- my Citroen LN ticked quite a few fail boxes this mot. I was only expecting it to fail on the crusty front discs. I ended up with this long list...
Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate Nearside headlamp aim beam image kick up to the offside (1.6) Offside headlamp aim beam image kick up to the offside (1.6) Nearside Rear direction indicator not in good working order (not working) (1.5.A1b) Offside windscreen wiper blade insecure (8.2.2) Nearside Front brake disc excessively pitted (3.5.1h) Offside Front brake disc excessively pitted (3.5.1h) Nearside Front macpherson strut worn and seriously weakened (2.4.G.1) Offside Front macpherson strut worn and seriously weakened (2.4.G.1) Nearside front wheel bearing feels rough when rotated (2.5.A.2) Nearside Front suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (2.4.A.2) Steering column flexible coupling is excessively deteriorated (2.1.4) Offside Inner fuel pipe leaking (7.2.1a) Nearside rear brake recording little or no effort (3.7.A.4a) Offside rear brake recording little or no effort (3.7.A.4a) Service brake efficiency below requirements (3.7.A.
I think the mot guy was being a bit picky because it's not that much of a shed. Honest. I had to laugh at his 'fix' for the wiper blade- whatever he did it didn't stop it detaching and skidding off across the bonnet the first time I used the wipers after the successful retest.

i think our fail sheets are different to yours, but anyhoo.
the rat failed on 9 seperate points i think, and i've had a suzuki bike fail with either 17 or 19 fail points. including various oils dripping on both brake discs. sold a week later 'for restoration' lolZ.

Volvo's fail sheet was a solid page.
And that was by 1969 standards.

My boss put a standstill on my first car. As well as the knackered radius arm, colander like subframe mounts and jacking point and dodgy track rod end, the engine was hanging out cos half the mounting studs in the gearbox had broke Still got it repaired tho. Metro no.3 had a memorable test too. Boss tested it when VOSA (or whatever they were that week) came round to watch him do a test. I think the poor sod thought I'd checked it over and sorted it. Errr wrong. My 'checking' involved knowing there were holes and noting it clonked over potholes, therefore at least one ball joint was sh4gged List included; Both front jacking points (rotten) Both rear footwells (holed) O/S chassis leg (crumbling) N/S front crossmember (hammer went thru and out the valance!) Exhaust blow Rear wheels would only turn one way I think there were actually 3 joints worn 1 tyre I think as well as maybe a few other bits, there was definitely crosses in every section. Look on my boss' face when he came out the pit was a picture Took a couple of weeks of spare minutes at work to get the thing sorted (didn't have a welder at home at the time)

I don't know if I still have the failure encylopedia but nearly 4 full pages of failures on a Mk3 Tranny recovery truck took some beating. It was then I realised why the previous owner had 'mislaid' the MOT that was supposed to have come with it and painted the entire underneath in nice thick black paint. He didn't manage to paint some rather crucial missing bolts in around the spring hangers well enough though. Oh, and I still got a stupidly high amount of spondoolies for it on eBay with a full and frank description.

I got for quality, not quantity... the GTE was the lengthiest fail at 1 page long, but my old beetle had the classic line "in my opinion this car is dangerous to drive because" line at the bottom of the sheet. Something about 45 degrees of play in the steering assembly

Had almost 3 pages on the Cortina I had way back - I knew it was near dead after hitting a severe hump-back bridge at 50 - suffice to say everything forward of the bulkhead was failed for one thing or another........ In Germany I was shocked my Alfa flew through the TuV, then had to drive my mate home and arrange recovery of his GolfMk1 - the tester rested his foot on the front bumper to fill in the licence plate details and it fell off! - He walked away and wouldn't go underneath the car to check it after that! ;D - Shortest test in history I think!

I know that feeling well- my Citroen LN ticked quite a few fail boxes this mot. I was only expecting it to fail on the crusty front discs. I ended up with this long list... You've got a Citroen LN? Awseome, can we see some pics? Is it a twin-cylinder job? I have often been winked at by these on garlic bay. I love taking stuff for its MOT. Even though I know the MOT is hardly super-strict, its a great feeling when some old pile I bought for £50 and spent weeks working on, finally gets the elusive slip of green paper. If your car has a 'FULL 12 MONTHS MOT' It somehow feels like it is momentarily in perfect mechanical order as defined by the pro's. I have MOT'd several cars this year: Allegro VP Lancia Prisma Alfa 75 Audi 200 Vauxhall Astra Honda Integra (getting a re-test today!) I'm sure theres another one but I can't think what it is. I usually fix everything obviously wrong before going for a test, but end up failing on a single perished brake hose or a slight brake imbalance or something.

I had an AlfaSud a few years ago that I bought off a mate on a bit of a whim. Took it for the dreaded and at the end, the guy said I really shouldn't drive it home.
I had expected it needed a little welding, but I hadn't inspected it too intimately. There was almost nothjing left of the front chassis. I have noi idea how the engine stayed where it was.
I did try to fix it, but 'weighed it' int he end.

The worst tests aren't the ones with the big lists - they can be lits oif minors - the worst tests are the ones over in like 5 minutes... A workmate once had one on a mK1 Escort which just came back "we decline to test thic car as it is not safe to do so due to excessive corrosion"
"Decline to test" is the worst one.
