Hi all
I've recently joined to wanted to introduce myself. I'm Matthew, 28, I'm heavily involved in the Hotrod, StreetRod and Custom Car scene as well as being on the Committee of the National Street Rod Association as the Pre29 members representative.
I put on the NSRA display of our members cars at the Weekender show just gone.
It was my first time attending the event after being told highly of it the last few years, which I have to say was an amazing event!!!(from what I could see when running a stand😂) and will definitely do again, providing it doesn't clash 🙈
My role in the committee, and big plan, is to get more exposure for the NSRA and more importantly the Hotrod, StreetRod and Custom car scene/culture. The biggest part is to interest more of the younger generation into the scene because without them the scene will unfortunately disappear with the older generation! We are a club of 2,500 members, at the beginning of the year we had 30 Pre29 members and now since being on the committee it's raised to 60 Pre29 members. Our membership is open to pre1972 (or the vehicle body shape was first ever produced before 1972).
We also put on the largest HotRod and Street Rod Show in the UK called 'HotRod Supernationals" from August 1st to 4th, in Old Warden(next to Shuttleworth Aerodrome), Bedfordshire.
But anyway, back to me.
My first car when I was 17 was a 1961 Ford 100e Popular Deluxe which I even drove to Belgium on a club tour, I still own it to this date but is now a long ongoing project.
My build currently consists of Suzuki Cappuccino front and rear axles(will be using a different diff), BC coilers with hollo BAGS, fully censored air suspension and will be running a Lexus 1uz v8, potentially twin turbo'd.👀
I also inherited a 1947 Ford Pilot Saloon from my old man who unfortunately never drove it, it was sacrilege to see it sitting there so I decided to take it on and drive it like its supposed to be ! It's got a 24 stud V8 Flathead with triple stromberg carburettors, which is the American truck engine so is more powerful and torquie compared to the original 21 stud europium version. I personally think these flatheads are the best sounding engine, just something about the lumpy burble they have through a stainless system😍. The engine has been mated to a Type 9 5 speed manual gearbox, original rear axle. The front axle is an early Ford drop beam axle with full air suspension all round to get it LOOOOWW😎
A couple years ago I had an itch for drag racing that needed to be scratched and one day I came across the perfect car. It was a 1969 Ford 100e, another one!!, this was an unfinished project at the time which had loads of history in its former life as a 10 second street driving drag car!
After months are hard work I was able to get it finished, back on the road and down the track!
It's originally had a Small Block Chevy 383 Stroker V8 in it but now has a little 350 Small block instead. Mated to a TH350 auto box with manual shift conversion and a transbrake, 8' Ford rear axle, believe the front shock are capri or something like that. Originally was gloss black with gloss orange stripes over the top, known as 'Hertz'. I've for now just rattle canned the body work with satin black paint with the intention on flipping the paint to all orange and black stripes.
Well I think thats enough of an introduction, hopefully see you guys at an upcoming show and don't forget about the Supernats in August!!
