For sale is my 2000 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 Twinspark.
Reason for sale is to free up funds for other projects, i have various cars that need work and this is bottom of the list unfortunately.
I bought this car as a stop gap fun car while i finished putting my MX5 back together.
Despite being an old cheap Alfa its refused to let me down, i've put about 1500 miles on it in the short time i've owned it.
I was using it a couple of times a week up until two weeks ago when the exhaust started to fall apart, it now has a huge exhaust blow that needs fixing. It can be driven and it MOT'd but it's loud.
111K Miles
MOT Until end of April 2024.
Recently serviced by me (October 2023)
New oil/filter.
Air Filter.
All 8 spark plugs.
It's fun to drive, revvy, handles well and just generally a nice place to be.
These really are very pretty cars and they're getting less and less common.
It's the best engine, the Twinspark rather than the not so good later JTS.
There are a few niggles with it that i will mention below. It is far from perfect.
I have advertised it as fairly and honestly as possible.
It would very much suit somebody using it as a second car and tinkering with it as and when it requires.
It requires some work before the MOT.
Good Points:
Drives well, engine is very responsive and goes through the entire rev range smoothly
Steering rack was replaced a few years back due to an issue with it, steering is very tight and responsive.
Previous owner touched up any areas where the underseal had started to peel off so is well protected and from what i can see rust free.
Incredible leather interior.
DAB/Bluetooth headunit, easy to connect and stream music from your phone
Very cheap to insure (I pay approximately £130 with breakdown cover on a 5K Mile classic car policy)
Bad Points: (Note as stated above its far from perfect and I'm probably being overly critical here)
Clutch will slip if you give it a hard time or drive the car hard, its fine under normal driving but can slip if driven hard. Certainly worn and will need changing in the future.
Minor gearbox whine in some gears - I will include a spare gearbox with the car that i bought to put on when i did the clutch.
Small oil leak - I don't know where its coming from, I can see some wet oil on the top of the gearbox so at a guess i would say rear main seal (Could be done at the same time as the clutch) or maybe Rocker cover gasket if you're lucky?
Drivers door wind seal is missing, does not leak and is water tight but you get some wind noise in the cabin at higher speeds. Cheap easy fix i just didn't get around to it.
Only 1 key (It is the red master key though so you can get another cut/made if required)
Rear brake light trim cover loose, clips are broken.
Small exhaust blows and exhaust is just generally tired, will need replacing at some point. - This has now developed into a big loud blow and needs sorting.
Paint/Bodywork is generally tired, dents and marks all over, far from a show winner.
I have almost certainly made it sound worse than it is but would rather be honest about everything.
Overall it's a 23 year old Alfa Romeo, far from perfect but a good useable future classic.
Parts are still readily available and affordable and it's easy to work on yourself. It needs somebody who is willing to tinker/work on it themselves, a few hundred in parts and some time spending on it, but its a useable project.
Starts first time every time and has always got me to where I need to go.
I'm now asking £850 700.. Which I think is fair. There are cheaper ones out there and more expensive ones. To find one without any issues you were spending a lot more, and many around this price don't always tell you what the issues are.
It owes me more than this but i just don't have time/space to work on it currently. If it doesn't sell before i finish my other projects i will rectify all the issues and sell it for more.
Car is located in Calne, Wiltshire. SN11.
Viewing/test drives welcome.
Note: While it can be driven away i wouldnt advise it purely due to how loud the exhaust blow is. It drives fine bar this.
More than happy to do a deal with any RR'er! Id much rather it go to somebody who will fix/use it.. i don't want to break it for parts even if that seems the best way to make money from it.
