Hi everyone, I`m about to respray the targa bar on my old Porsche 911. I have done this before, but the finish is very patchy, with variations in the smoothness of the satin black finish. When I did the job I rubbed down and sprayed with primer, so I`m not sure what I did to get an uneven finish...
Any comments welcome, thanks...I am comsidering gloss.....

What brand of paint did you use? Normal "car spares shop" satin black tends to do that. I use Montana or Belton graffiti cans as they're a much more even coat.

What Stealthstylz said.
Even OEMs have this problem on non-gloss finishes. However, they will play around with 'slow' thinners, which allow for the matting agents to settle out.
Technique helps, but if the paint ain't right, no amount of technique will get you the result.
Another thing to bear in mind, is that the more you put on with Satin, the glossier the finish will get, with it going more towards a 'sheen' finish.

Got to be honest my go to for satin will be Upol rattle cans. I did one have some amazing single pack satin black but never managed to find it again, Everything else ive bought in a tin hasn't worked. The rattle cans arnt great for longevity so if that matters i will spray them over a coat of proper 2K and be prepare to re-do it occasionally. Lets face it satin never lasts long looking good anyway. Very quickly its just matt!

I tend to use U-Pol power cans for satin black. I find if you do thin coats to build it up, at the right temperature you get a good proper satin finish and no real patches. My experience is when I rush it, and its cold during spraying and curing it goes patchy. If you're having issues with the paint. Can you vinyl wrap it in satin black? ebay vinyl black wrap

But that is basically the technique (y).
