So I know that petition posts on here usually have a fairly short life span, but Ima gonna spam you with one anyway. I am one of the many people who find driving at night to now be made frequently unpleasant by oncoming car headlights being excessively bright and aimed too high. I pulled into a restaurant car park the other day and I parked nose to nose with some kind of "typical modern family transport" crossover mini SUV hatch thing and it struck me that the headlights were level with my face. How can they expect that to even work out? Anyway, theres a petition about it. It will likely do no good but I felt better for having signed it. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/653793

There has always been a huge height disparity between various vehicle types. We just have to accept reality and live with it.

I pesronally don't think height plays a major role, it's more the brightness and scatter from LED's that cause the problems, not just from oncoming cars, cars behind cause the same problems.

Headlight height and position isn't the main problem. Poorly adjusted (or not even correctly adjusted from new) headlights are the real issue.
The amount of first MOT tests I've done in the past few years that have needed an adjustment as to where the peepers are pointing is maddening!
And a lot of Mercedes LED and HID light units have very peculiar headlight cutoff patterns

This for sure. Do dealers not do pre-delivery checks on new vehicles anymore?

Is that incompetence, cbf, or both? Knowing how main dealers work, and the bonus scheme in most workshops, I'd say both

I've noticed afew timed these hids seem to have a habit of looking like they're flashing you when following you on a bumpy road. I don't know if cheap bulbs or headlight conversions are prone to this or not, or factory fitment as well either way it sucks. Years ago dad fitted 80/100w halogens to his maxi. Didn't look too offensive until he was following me in my lowered mini one day. I had to move all my rear view mirrors at funny angles just so I could see where I was going!

I have a Merc SLC as a daily. Headlights of EVERY vehicle are straight into my face or rear view mirror as it's a low car But yes, I agree that nearly every newer car has terribly adjusted headlights. My friend has eye problems, meaning he cannot now drive at night as the headlights cause him considerable discomfort.

I'll sign, it'll do curse word all good but at least i've done something. This topic came up on a facebook group recently with new car owners complaining that people kept flashing them as they were being dazzled. I asked why they hadn't returned the vehicle to have them checked as they were now aware it was obviously a danger to other road users and likely to cause an accident and got completely slagged off - oh its a new vehicle its fine. I hope they meet themselves coming the other way one day. What you need is yellow tint shooting glasses for night driving. Like these or something similar - I use my safety ones They literally revolutionised driving at night for me.
