I last owned an RC back in the late 80’s . Raced off road all over the midland’s , but gave it up as it was getting expensive for my parents & my paper round money didn’t touch the sides of it ! 😂 I think it’s fair to say things have changed a little since then !!
I’m looking to buy a drift car to use in my breaks at work , kind of a de stress thing .
The one I’m looking at is RTR , but needs a 2S lipo . It’s a brushed set up , but as I can’t leave anything standard it’ll eventually go brushless .
Pretty sure i need a 5000 mAh , correct me if I’m wrong on this .
So my questions ,
There seems to be loads of different makers , is there any to definitely avoid or are highly recommended ?
Same again with the chargers , many different makers & prices , what would you recommend ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
👍

5000mah is basically what determines the run time. It’s the ‘fuel tank size’ if you will. 2S and the ‘C’ (discharge rate) are the important factors here, finding out what rate the manufacturer specified would be good but realistically higher the better. Charger wise you can’t go wrong with something foolproof like an IMAX B3 if you are wary about charging. They are slower as they are 800ma balance chargers. If you want something a bit more pro the B6 is what I and many others use. I run Tamiya Lorries on lipo, which isn’t very common as yet although a lot of people are coming round to it now.

Thanks for that .
I’ll check out those chargers .
I’m slowly getting my head around it . Seems alot of scare stories around lipo’s , hence me asking on here as I know i’ll a more balanced/real life response .

Use a charging bag, store them properly and charge them properly and they will give a long safe service life. Household devices have had lipos and liions in them for the best part of probably over a decade now.

A lipo charging sack is a really good idea (compulsory at most meetings as well) and never leave them charging unattended. If you remember struggling to last a 3 or 5 minute final with nicads you won't believe the difference lipos bring.

Don’t think I’ll ever forget saving my ‘best’ battery pack for the final & watching my multi meter like a hawk as it charged !! 😂
Definitely will getting a charging bag they won’t be left while charging .
