OK, here's the deal. A good few years back I bought an A60 axle to put under the Minor. I stripped it down without marking which halfshaft came from which side. About a month after I did that, I read that swapping halfshafts from side to side is a real no-no as the half shafts will have become accustomed to being twisted in a given direction, twist them the other way and they'll snap.
This becomes more important when you're planning "considerably" more power than the 61bhp that an A60 puts out.
What I want to know is, if I get the shafts heat-treated (e.g. tufftriding), will this "reset" things as it were, and allow me to put either shaft in either side?
The problem is that A60 halfshafts are somewhat hard to get hold of. The only specialist I could get hold of could sell me used shafts for £48 +VAT (each!!) and couldn't guarantee which side they'd come from (great!), as they get the supplied by a third party.
Any one know the answer?
