Hi RR collective
I've read the MOT manual and if I'm reading it correctly, damage to a windscreen is only a fail if its within the swept area of the wipers and impedes the drivers view of the road. I've got a crack in my modern's windscreen which is entirely behind the fritting around the rear view mirror mounting and not in the bit of the windscreen you can see through - so I think it ought to pass! The MOT's due this month and I don't particularly want to pay the £95 excess to get the screen changed until I have to!
cheers Cortinaman

It’s as you say , but , it’s wether it affects the testers veiw .
So if you have a 5 foot tall tester , or 6 foot tall tester , you could potentially have different outcomes .
From your description , i’d pass & advise it .

Damage in zone A more than 10mm, or 40mm in the remainder of the windscreen swept area.
Zone A is defined as within the swept area or the windscreen 290mm wide and centred on the steering wheel.
Sounds like you're golden.

If only the driver’s view of the sky or the bonnet is affected, it should not be rejected. You do not need to consider how the field of vision would be affected by tall or short drivers

All that zone stuff means nothing now.
To fail needs to significantly effect the drivers view of the road, To me even a single crack straight through the middle at eye level from left to right would be a pass. Got to be be serious cracks to stop you seeing the road.
MOT is minimum standa, and just because it would pass an MOT doesn't mean police wouldnt/couldnt have something to say if they so wished.
