Found a large factory Alfa rear wing for my 156, it has now been filled, smoothed and painted, time to mount it. There are 3 threaded holes per side, so I worked out I need to drill 5 holes in my boot lid. (1 threaded hole is knackered). How do I work out where to drill ?, I can get the wing into position but can not see where the threaded holes are. I'm sure it will eventually come to me, might take months though. 😥

Mark round the base of the spoiler on the masking tape, take the spoiler off and put some tape over the base and the holes, trim it to fit and poke through where the holes are. Peel it off and transfer to card, this will give you a template you can line up with what you’ve drawn on the boot….

Get a couple of long pieces of cardboard and draw some kind of reference grid onto it. Bolt the pieces of card onto the baseplates of your wing using low profile bolts, and then carefully place the wing into the correct position. Make markings on the bootlid which join with the grid on the cardboard. Remove wing. Remove cardboard from wing, and put back onto bootlid, aligning with the markings. Mark the position of the holes.

Blob of Bluetac on each corner of the boot, put spoiler in place, remove spoiler, you'll have indents where you need to drill, done that on a couple of vectras now.

That's exactly the sort of job that transfer screws are used for.
You can buy them, but turning a point*** onto the end of a short length of thread works just as well. Then you screw them into the part, place it where you want it and press down gently. Drill where the pointed thread has made a convenient centre mark.
*** if you don't have a lathe, then put the treaded rod into a drill chuck, and rotate it against a grinding wheel.
