I'm going to paint my Mini engine and I would like to maintain the unpainted areas on the cylinder head. I think it looks a lot smarter and as it came from the factory. But after cleaning it all up I can only imagine these areas will be the first to start corroding. I suppose I could lacquer it but that sounds a bit rubbish. Or do you just go around with some wire wool from time to time?  |

Iron loves to rust, so bare surfaces corrode almost in minutes. The more polished the longer it takes. I find that thin oil (eg 3in1) rubbed over the surface works well.

Yeh just oil it. The a-series generally has a self oiling feature as standard 🤣

i have a motorbike with a bare metal fuel tank
wiping it with ACF-50 every couple of months keeps the rust away

I was going to say ACF-50 also. It's good stuff, but can be a bit sticky from memory.
