Hey Folks and Hanukkah sameach! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Well I launched the mobile version, to much gnashing of teeth, so my mission this week is to revisit that based on the feedback. I'm also trying to get an advert video together for Retro Rides Weekender and start on the Gathering one too. It never stops! I have a bloke outside the house now who I'm paying to do a semi detail on both cars. Most they have seen in a year is a petrol station blast with the high pressure hose.
I bought a da polisher last summer and it's sat here next to me gathering dust so time to admit to myself that I'll never get around to doing them myself.

I'm planning to get a pressure washer in the sales (if a good one comes up). I don't wash my cars enough really and I should do more of it, a quick wash, snow foam and rinse more often would keep them nicer. I've found out about 10 minutes away from me there is a detailer, so I may well book the cars in there every couple of months over the summer (if they are going to shows). We do have a local hand car wash that is actually good. Use fresh clothes for each car, big BIG water containers with grit filters in them. Sure it isn't a proper detail, but for the daily it is more than fine

Screw fix own brand ones (titan) are supposed to be good, better spec for the money and they feel well built, and screw fix always seem to have offers on them, probably be one in the Jan sales.

So polar opposite to last weeks -8 temperature its now 12.5 and the condensation in unit is horrendous!!!
Combined with working on a very crusty Type R!
Roll on spring

My last nilfisk (Only a cheapy tbh) lasted longer than the previous 3 karchers combined, so when it eventually expired after 6-7 years I bought another slightly better one. This one has also been great and is a much better design with built in hose reel. Would recommend.

Roll on spring We’ve also had a nearly 20deg temperature swing over the course of two days. Pretty mental. All it means it’s it’s gone not being able to do much as everything is frozen solid, to not being able to do much as everywhere is very squelchy and it risks the yard becoming an utter quagmire with too much traffic 🙄 We’ve got a couple of windy days forecast now though so hopefully that will dry things up a bit.

I was going to mention nilfisk as heard they are good, but the titan ones when on offer are hard to beat for the price.

Another vote for Nilfisk here. Had mine about 8 years, including months sat out in the open, and it's still working fine.

This month's mostly been sourcing materials to extend the garage when I get time next year, I've also purchased another big printer to convert into a sublimation one to print some retro-inspired shadow boards in an effort to tidy the aforementioned garage.
I need to change the dailies brake pads, so that might be a task for this weekend.
There's plans at least, even if there isn't any real progress yet...

I've been giving some consideration to furthering my garage stuff too. Going to carpet tile the floor again. Still got a bunch of stuff in there from when I moved house last year though, which could do with going up in the roof of the garage, but that needs boarding, which is a whole pain to do because it is high enough for storage, but not high enough for me to stand up in. I should probably start a Garage Life thread on it to encourage me to do stuff.

I moved about this time last year, and there's still a few pallets of "stuff" to sort, but a lot of it will go in the extension, so it seems daft moving it twice.

TBH, I’m enjoying a week off work. I was getting quite burned out and consumed. I love the job but I do need a break. Anyway, regarding what others have said. There are some good videos out there showing how to use a DA to good effect. The ones by the well known Larry Kosilla @ Ammo NYC (mainly his older ones with Ken Brown helping him), and John @ Forensic Detailing channel are good. The nice thing with a DA is, they are slower to work with but it gives you more time to see if you are getting the result you want before it’s too late, unlike a rotary. If nothing else, if you wash the car, give one panel a go, or the worst spots. The classic mistake to make is to think you can do your car in one go. It’s not easy to. Don’t be afraid I bought a da polisher last summer and it's sat here next to me gathering dust so time to admit to myself that I'll never get around to doing them myself. I'm planning to get a pressure washer in the sales (if a good one comes up). We do have a local hand car wash that is actually good. Use fresh clothes for each car, big BIG water containers with grit filters in them. Sure it isn't a proper detail, but for the daily it is more than fine I’m happy to put together a kit list. I have a Karcher but now I wash my cars more (and motorbike) I don’t actually use many Karcher bits. I run a 1/4 click and fit setup, which is brilliant. Anyway, my 325d last week decided it would have an iffy caliper. Today I fixed it. I cheaped out and bought a refurb kit with a piston, but it’s good. However, a couple of things came to mind 1) The M3 which I needs to move from the garage was surprisingly damp inside. The car had a dampness on the body too. I was surprised. Many things in the garage were too. It very rarely gets damp. I can only assume the change in temp has brought this about, and the rain. The house is more humid according to the the thermostat, but it’s not too notable. 2) For what is a family run of the mill car, the 325d has something interesting to sad folks like me. Teflon coated brake caliper pistons. I was surprised. Maybe they are ally pistons. They didn’t really seem any lighter than the new “normal” replacements I sourced. However, I think the Teflon coating brought about one of the two issues the car has with the caliper. Suffice to say, the wheel can now spin freely again .

The dampness is definitely because of the temperature change. Our work building is like a tropical greenhouse now, pain in the having to cover every thing you don't want to go rusty. Hopefully the dry/wind and big doors open for a couple of days will sort it.

Bought some new wheels for the Clio. They're genuine Rota replicas of Enkei RPF1's not fake replicas of Rota's replica of Enkei RPF1's. 80 quid too, mega barg.
