Just a few pics from various shows I’ve attended over recent years and the memories they stirred . . .
Father had one of these from 1967 – late 70s. His was a 1500 deluxe in white but my brother and I never managed to persuade him to paint a ‘Lotus’ style green flash along the sides . . .
This is just cool . . . .
Always used to read Custom Car magazine in the early 70s (got caught reading it in a maths lesson at school once…) and have loved modded Pops ever since
Amazons are good looking cars, especially so on Minilites . . .
What’s not to like about a GT40 in Gulf colours – I can’t afford one which is just as well because at 3 stone overweight I’d never be able to get in the thing . . .
In the late 70s my older brother used to drive a CA Bedford ice cream van and I used to go out with him at weekends. Things used to get quite heated sometimes when vans from a rival company tried to work the same patch . . .
Love this Commer Van and wouldn’t mind getting one for my own business …
Mk 2 Z Estates are the business, especially with period sun visor . . .
About 30 years ago I bought a Hillman Imp Californian from a workmate for £75. Only had it a couple of months and it was nicked, sold to the scrappie and cubed. The police actually caught the 2 offenders and the court ordered them to pay me £75 compensation . . . each! I got it in dribs and drabs over a 12 month period – one of the few cars I actually made a profit on!
Underrated large saloon – Austin 3 Litre. In the 1970s a friend of mine (didn’t actually know him at the time) fitted a couple of these with Perkins Diesel engines and was featured in the motoring pages of the local rag. He tried to get backing from his bank to do it commercially but they were of the opinion that ‘diesels would never catch on . . . .’
Had a Dolomite Sprint many years ago – it was a bit of a dog. I spent a fair amount of time and money bringing it up to scratch but then had to sell it (mortgage, marriage, daughter . . . )
The Gordon Keeble – these were made at a factory at Southampton Airport not far from where I lived. I first became aware of them as they were featured in a contemporary ‘Observers Book of the Automobile’. Always thought I might have one one day but they are now worth mega money ☹
