Who else is up early? I'm only an hour or so from our destination, but I've agreed to stop by a mate's to watch the Japanese GP before we head off (seemed a good idea at the time!)
Pros: feels like an adventure being up this early. McDs breakfast on the way. Meeting up with friends. I shall be returning with some gratefully-received tools for the garage. Car show! Car show burger (potentially a positive, not always!)

Cons: It's EARLY! The forum is doing funny things with longer posts? I'll miss my dog! Not sure I've forgiven F1 for last year. Picking up big things in my car reminded me the boot is jammed shut! Have youtube'd how to open it from the inside

Haven't done the early thing for a while, and certainly not today, it's BTCC final, even if I'm only watching on the box. I'll be doing the early start at the end of the month, 145 miles for the NSRA Northern swap meet Have a good day 👍

I always wonder what the hell I'm doing with my life getting up at 6am on a weekend to go to shows.
My favourite thing about shows is on the journey there seeing other cars on the way. This is especially good with Bicester as I have a 2 hour journey, but it heads across the M4 and past Oxford, so there are always interesting fellow travellers along those bits.

Last time we went to the Le Man's 24hr (2009), every service stop on the way through France was a car show, saw an amazing variety of stuff, it was as good as the racing....😁

Earliest I tend to rise is for the start of the London to Brighton, which will be on 6th November this year. The atmosphere in Hyde Park as dawn breaks can be quite magical. Can be there early, do a whole car show thing and be home by 9am!

Goodwood Revival is the earliest one I do. I’ve taken to riding the 55 miles down there in period, which means leaving at 4am to get there for an 8am breakfast. Did it again this year on my fixed gear 1938 Parkes. I usually stop for a snack at Guildford where it’s still pitch black, and then a second stop at a church somewhere near Midhurst on the A286 - that’s when I start to see all the cars heading past!

Please excuse the edited quote here, I just wanted to focus on a few of the things that stood out to me. Goodwood Revival… I’ve taken to riding the 55 miles down there in period… on my fixed gear 1938 Parkes… I had to google to see if I had some how missed for the last few years a fixed gear motor cycle. You sir… are freaking insane! You cycle 55 miles to Goodwood dressed as a chimney sweep, to walk however many miles around the circuit (we did 12 this year) and then cycle back? I love the event and would do the same to be fair. If you want a lift home next year let me know! If I had a hat on I’d take it off!

This thread reminded me of how dad would often wake me up at silly-o-clock on a Sunday by thumping heavily on my bedroom door and then softly saying 'are you awake yet?'. Many times mum would tell him not to do it like that, he'd say 'well it works don't it?' There was no way I was going to go back to sleep after that, even if it was 4 in the morning for the treck up to Newark jumble in the middle of winter.
