Another one of my bright or possibly daft ideas  I will start off with one of these, does anyone have one tucked away somewhere ? or have they all rotted away by now  I'll make the task even more difficult by hoping to find an up and running ready to go one as I don't want a project OK , you can stop laughing now and suggest some alternatives if you have time  Here's a couple of my requirements, in no order at all a vehicle which could become a dayvan for a few day trips. no projects but would not object to having to fix a few things auto would be nice power steering would be good, nothing with heavy steering I'll add more when I think of them and see some of your suggestions thanks for looking in |

Not auto but much cheaper and left field is a Renault Kangoo Trekka. My son has one and its great offroad. Hes lived it in around europe for last 3 weeks. Other fairly common in working order alternatives are Toyota Granvia or Nissan Elgrand both less boxy and more late 90s than 80s looking. I'll add pics later

The great thing about the Delica though is that it shares the Shogun/Pajero underpinnings and are pretty cool in the rough with proper 4x4!

Quite a few still kicking about in nz, but rust gets them badly (even here where we don't salt the roads!). The last model l300 looks mean jacked up too

Had many L300 Delica's.
Amazing vehicles.
Don't expect good MPG, if it gets to 30mpg then get celebrating!
There are several versions:
Manual / auto (manual was pretty rare, both drive well, I really wouldn't worry about either)
2wd and 4wd - I only had 4wd and they only come with an old but reliable 2.5td.
High and low roof(flat roof).
The high roof can be metal or have "crystallite' glass.
They rust in the usual places but also the roof can rust in weird ways around the strengthening bars.
Torsion bars on the front and leaf springs on the rear, so shackles can lift it.
You can get 31's on them with a lift and not have to do too much other stuff to keep them OK, any higher and drive shaft angles etc are probably gonna need a shim.
They share several parts with Pajero's but they are not just Pajero's with a different body - they are a different car and as such some parts can take a bit of tracking down.
The bottom pulleys on the engine like to go wrong, check for play.
If searching for one they can be named: L300, Delica, starwagon.
A good one will not be cheap.
A bad one will still not be cheap!
I'd also suggest the next version the L400 delica if looking at a day wagon..
thats got the 2.8TD and whilst being a lot less retro and boxy is a lot more "refined" (at least compared to a L300!)

I second Accord83.
Incidentally I do have a Bongo which will be going up for sale as it's not really worked out... financially... with what we wanted to do with it.
2.5 TDI, 4WD, autobox, electric pop-up roof tent (like in the pic further up). Little bit rough round the edges but looks passable with a wash! (A 1995 import isn't going to look immaculate)
