Probably boring for most, and certainly my newest vehicle. With a job that now requires a 50 mile daily commute i wanted something that would do the big waft. Plenty of comfort, plenty of power (Celtic tuning remap to just over 300bhp.) and plenty of modern things i don't need but work nicely. For a 3.0 twin turbo diesel its suprisingly frugal, it will do mid to high 40's on a run. unless you get excited then its low teens. Lots of Detailing juice thrown at it and lots of driving. Fair to say I'm sold. This was going to start off with me saying how wonderfully reliable it has been.... That changed 2 weeks ago when it blew the side off the intercooler when bulling onto the A46 in front of truck... apparently this is fairly standard behaviour. New intercooler fitted and now back to being as wafty as ever. But my god what a horrendous Job. Not user friendly. Entire front end off, radiator and intercooler come out in one lump but you need to unhook the fan first, this needs to stay where it is or it wont come out past the thermostat neck. Zero guides online because apparently no one works on these themselves. This thing is twin turbo and even in this state i couldn't see either of them. Looking pretty in the twilight.

If I didn't have to fairly often fix these I'd own one in a heartbeat. They're ace to drive.

Brave man taking on any JLR product as the relaibilty is questionable on a series of issues but the 3.0 T/TDi is renowned for self destruction, something to do with diesel in the oil. Sorry.
Looks great though................

Nice Jag, I love how such a big car just shrinks around you when you drive it. You can really hustle them along B roads. I take mine to Hungry twice a year. A thousand miles each way in absolute comfort. I have had mine for almost 7 years and it’s been reliable. The only issue I have had is the front window mechanism giving up. I know the 2.7 had problems with the crank snapping but as far as I know the 3.0 is a good motor. This is mine

This is of interest to me because my eldest has one. His is a 2008 (I think) XF S 3 litre turbo diesel. He loves it.

Yup, another XF owner who’s fond of theirs as a daily driver here. Mines a 2012 3.0 TDI. Kinda wishing I’d sprung for the next spec up with the air conditioned seats looking at the weather forecast! Haha. I do like the calm refined interior and the drive is wonderfully effortless, which is especially welcome after a long day of work / parenting. If I was critical of it, I’d say it’s somehow not connected with me quite like my old x300 XJ did. It’s a much much better car, but it’s more of a functional tool somehow. I think that’s part due to its modernity and part due to the Diesel engine… if only running the petrol v8 wouldn’t have been so ruinous!

If I didn't have to fairly often fix these I'd own one in a heartbeat. They're ace to drive. Luckily i have all the tools etc from my previous life as a HGV tech so it doesn't scare me too much. Me and SWMBO have both had stereotypically "Reliable" cars and had nothing but endless issues, this has so far been the least troublesome.

I had the 2.7 Twin Turbo S-Type which is basically the same car under the skin and I bought it with a duff engine, it wasn't a huge problem to swap it over but I wouldn't want to get the turbos out on their own!
As far as i'm aware the 2.7 and 3.0 both have the same issues which is that the DPF regen cycle fails to complete and you end up with a load of diesel in the oil which dilutes it and it then spins the crank bearings.
It seems to affect people using them for short journeys more as the regen can't complete. If I still had one I would change the oil reguarly (probably half the service interval) and enjoy it because certainlyh the 2.7 S-Type was a fantastic car and I can only imagine that the XF would be even better.
Of course compared to my previous S-Type R it was a slow old thing!

I did consider an XFR but 50 miles a day at the current fuel prices would be ruinous. I was amazed at how hidden the turbos actually are i was 4 hours into removing the front end and couldn't even see a glimpse of compressor...

As an employee of JLR, specifically in SVO Powertrain i do like these.
I think my ideal version(and something i would get in a heartbeat if i could afford it) is a sportbrake in FIrenze Red with black 5107 20" wheels and P300 engine.

I do very much like an estate in any kind, however i much prefer the pre facelift front end and unfortunately not available in estate flavour... I am actively on the look out for a set of 20" Senta or Selena alloys and then i must try to resist the urge to hit it with the low stick.. I always ruin my dailys....

This has been on pretty much every car i have owned in some form or another. Maybe it doesn't suit, maybe its not technically "safe" But i don't care. Wood and chrome works for any Jag in my eyes.

Really like these, I'm a fan of the AJD-v6 too, I've got one in my Disco4 and the 600nm makes it effortless, even with the pre-facelift 6 speed and 2500kg to haul around. Makes the usual J SUVs look like a kid's toy.
Mine is a non-DPF one and I keep the oil as clean as a whistle, so am hoping it holds up.
It split an inlet manifold last year and that was a mother-f to replace, but I couldn't stay mad at it and has been as good as gold apart from that.
You're totally right about people not working on them, they seem to run it into the shop and post about the $$$$ invoice instead!

Ok so it looks like my post has tempted fate. Currently halfway through the replacement on my OTHER inlet manifold, which split as soon as I posted above! They are a big job and access is very tight in a Disco4, not sure how they are in the Jag but be prepared with either 8+ hours per side or your Visa card if (when?) they split on yours. Use Genuine replacements only, word is that the aftermarket ones don't always last. Good news is that you can still nurse the car around for a few days once they go. Still not mad at it...

Thankfully it had a cambelt and both sides done not long before i bought it. I think this was the reason the previous owner sold it.
New front tyres and tracking earlier this week (For the third time...) , running Uniroyal Rainsport 5's all round now and the tracking has made a world of difference clearly trusting independents bit me this time. It was tramlining like crazy before and destroyed inner edges of front tyres. 6mm outside - cords showing inside...
The only things I don't have the tools to do myself tyres and tracking. So far something has gone wrong every time anyone has touched it. Years of being a mechanic means the usual bs doesn't fly so will be looking for someone to have a word with.
Only issue I'm still having (It seems to be a common thing.) is the front end shimmy under braking, all suspension arms replaced and good new front discs and pads, new rear discs and pads and still a wobble through the steering wheel under braking. Worse when brakes are hot. Numerous suggestions specifically for the XF online. Not one of them seems to be fixing it. If anyone has any ideas I would forever greatfull.

Bum hats... Luckily a minor pringle but still frustrating none the less. Sat still in traffic and bang... Other party asked me to get a quote. £500 for the bumper, not including the now intermittent parking sensors or any other hidden damage. Apparently The BMW needs a whole new front end! Insurance time...

So after months of waiting in a 72 plate A3 I have had confirmation that they found "Further damage" when inspecting the Jag. Car has been declared a total loss.. I went down to get some belongings out of it unannounced and the back bumper was still off the car.. Spot the imaginary damage? In other news this is being replaced by a 2008 type R

I'm not saying the wrote it off because they make good money selling them via copart, but, well they do lol. All I can see is a rear bumper that wants painting

All I can see is a rear bumper that wants painting When they called me the first line out of my mouth was "Copart aren't having it" still awaiting a valuation, seems they are asking around £500 to get the damn thing back. What happened to scrap value!
