Bit modern really I know but could do with tapping into the RR wisdom….
I’ve been offered a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara for not a great deal of money. Tidyish, low miles, but been standing about 8 months, no mot and ”knackered engine”.
Story goes that it lost coolant and was driven until it would drive no more. A garage (of unknown competence) have been at it and removed the cam cover, chain cover and plugs. I assume they compression tested and got poor results as the guy was told he needed another engine.
It actually turns over sweetly by hand. Looks clean inside, doesn’t look or smell burnt, the oil looks (and smells) like moderate mileage oil and while the coolant is indeed down, there is some in there and it smells be like coolant.
So maybe the engine is actually saveable…. Maybe. I do note though that the J20A that it’s fitted with is rare second hand, and fearsome expensive…… which means plan b might be breaking it. Probably I’d come out ahead financially, but only if senior management didn’t file for divorce….. And anyway I want to save it and send it on, not break it.
Anyone familiar with these engines? Appreciate that as an all-alloy lump, if it truly has been thorough cooked it’s likely done for, it just doesn’t appear as though it has been cooked….
Thanks
Nick
