I am not that keen on selling this car but I want to make space for an Audi A8 for a family trip to France in July so it must go to a new owner.
I've had a lot of 80s/ 90s Peugeot products and this is definitely the most fun iteration I've experienced. All the right noises and feelings without any of the guilt of 'ruining' a low mileage, showroom quality GTI.
The car has done fewer than 50k miles - about 1500 a year on average.
Before you read the rest of the ad, if you are not happy that it is a replica/ recreation, this is not the car for you. If you want to get into something that makes you feel brilliant every time you use it, read on. If you want a real GTI, I've had one, they are great, but they are getting rare and expensive - for what this is, I think this is cheap and ostensibly more exciting.
The red paint is very red. The black trim is very black. The interior is very clean and tidy. The engine has recently been rebuilt with a custom manifold and R1 carbs that feel as though they have been set up by a wizard. The throttle response is stunning. The exhaust is a bit louder than a normal car but not antisocial.
This car has generated so much fun, conversation and discussion everywhere we've been in it. It is in weirdly good condition and attracts all sorts of admiring onlookers.
To make it perfect, you would have the alloys refurbished and treat the small bit of rust on the rear passenger side arch. That said, it starts every time (with manual choke if cold), steers very accurately, brakes beautifully and uses no fluids.
The joy of this thing is in using it. Naturally aspirated, tight as a drum, responsive and delivers 44. 9mpg on the motorway which means you ought to buy it to save your wallet and our planet. In the age of the £30k 309 GTI, the £45k 306 rallye, this gets you most of the fun without the need for a diamond mine.
Comes with a huge spares package. Plenty of documentation. Worst bit is the rust pictured. Best bit has to be the engine.
Was displayed at the late brake show live in Manchester (unintended but happy we got the chance - has even featured in a 'hub-nut' video on the day itself).
Drove it to Bude for a wedding this weekend just gone. Loved it.
