Let me start by saying I am not at all up to speed on the mechanics of jaguar v12s, I'm more of a classic Toyota/Honda man. My future father in law has a 1991 xjs v12 that has been sitting up for 3-4 years, I hope to use it in a couple of months for our wedding but am struggling to get it to start. It swings over, makes an attempt to fire and then conks out. Last time we got it running, it bogged down on acceleration. Any idea of obvious things to check? Or known failure points? Thanks in advance

If its been sitting that long the fuel in the system is likely to have gone off , evaporated or similar. The fuel can leave a 'varnish' in the system and block fuel lines and injectors.
V12 sufferers will be along shortly with something more helpful i'm sure.

Yes fresh fuel would be the first thing to change along with the filter, then check you have fuel pressure and the distributor advance isn't seized, for spark check with a spare plug as you would on any other car. They are pretty simple really the only mad thing is the ignition vacuum system which won't affect starting, there's just 12 of everything. if you have good fuel and spark and no run might it be worth checking the temperature sensor resistance, it's the main thing which controls cold fuelling.
If all else fails try few squirts of easy start in each air cleaner, if it fires for a couple of seconds your problem is fuel.
It's worth downloading Kirby Palm's book as well, gives loads of info on these.

Helped a friend resurrect one that had been tucked away for over 10 years, new plugs and fuel, then running on 6 or 7, injectors were sticking, a few heat cycles and they all came back to life Ttfn Glenn

Far from an expert on these, but I’m sure I read, saw somewhere that they’re very susceptible to weak spark/poor distributor/leads
