Evening gents, I have recently acquired a 1989 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 OHC
The alternator light is on, and it cuts out at junctions when the revs drop, but that's not my main issue!
When I took off the oil cap it had white gunk all over it, I've checked the dipstick and that's a normal light brown colour with no white bits on it, I haven't noticed any bubbling in the expansion tank and it doesn't seem to overheat.
The car has been off the road since 2014 (Except 2018) according to the MOT history, F517YJT if you want to look.
Would it be the head gasket blown? Or would the mayo just ooccur due to lack of use?
Any input would be greatly appreciated, as I'm a bit down hearted with the bloody thing at the moment.
Cheers!

I've had that mayo with my Escort mk3. not a lot of it but I was only doing short trips. The car was getting up to temp but I guess it wasnt long enough to clear it out. Also worried tons about my Capri's head gasket with smoke and oil... it all seems to be related to valve stem seals... I think if it the head you'll properly know about it.

Sounds like condensation to me, I'd pull the rocker cover off, clean out as much as possible and change the oil & filter. Take it for a decent run, check water levels before and after and keep an eye on the temperature gauge. Hopefully nothing serious and you'll be fine 👍 Know what you mean about mojo, happens to us all occasionally

This is good advice...here's hoping that an oil change does not reveal the forbidden cappuccino we all fear...

Thanks for the replies, I was beginning to think I'd ended up with a dud.
I'll get the oil changed and clean it out as best I can asap and take it for a long run as suggested, well I will after I've changed the alternator and the battery!
Fingers crossed.

My 94 mk3 does this all the time after it's been stood, good run out and it clears until the next time I don't use it for a few weeks. Unless it runs like poo or loses water don't worry about it
