Mucking about with my A35 van at the moment, Prompted by the warm weather, and finding some new door card blanks, I have been looking for ages, even usable used ones just don't exist,... so my want is to cover the door cards with Rexene, a period cloth based, plastic coated sort of Leathercloth, its quite different in feel to modern Leathercloth in it is hard and cold feeling, feels a bit like sticky backed plastic, anybody know where to get some? The next thing, should not be too hard, I am using individual plastic letters for my numberplate, I'm dictated as to what I can use because my back panel has been previously drilled to fit the letters, Again, Its taken ages to find a set of letters to fit, Blumels digets and letters eventually were found in BLACK Plastic, to be legal, I need silver on a black field, , the black field is easy, but after scuffing whats the best, hard wearing matt silver to paint the plastic figures with?

Hi, It might be worth having a word with Sweetpea or vulgalour because they may have more involvement with their Bristol K5G and Lanchester projects. Colin

Unfortunately, Rexene is no longer being produced so the only source is salvaging it from other items or if you get really lucky and find an unused roll of it. I've been after some brown Rexene to do some retrimming of the interior of the Lanchester for a while, but haven't had any joy finding what I'm after since it's a fairly specific shade of brown that's needed.
Zinc weld-through primer gives a moderately good approximation of the number plate letter silver you're after. A couple of coats of satin varnish over that should give you some protection too without losing the flat silver look. Some 'aluminium' coloured silver paints, and some VHT silvers also give a reasonable flat silver. You'll have to experiment a bit to find the one that gives the best finish for what you're after, it's a tricky one if you're not going for a batch of custom mixed paint.

I had put this question about on other sites I habitate, one place was recommended to me for a rexene substitute, so I have asked for samples, lets see what arrives, www.martrim.co.uk/car-trimming-supplies/vinide-leather-cloth-rexine.phpSilver paint, Halfords own generic silver seems to look good too

My understanding of Rexene is much the same. Earlier this weekend I watched this video...
Where the chap is talking about Rexene not being made anymore and Leathercloth not having the same smell. (Go to about 13:45 in.)
James
Sorry - having problems with the video... I'll try again.
