Just heard about these, news to me, I've not seen them publicised anywhere 1- drivers give way to pedestrians crossing if they're entering or leaving a turning 2- give cyclists 1.5m space at 30mph when overtaking, and more at higher speeds 3- don't cut across cyclists or horses when turning left. 4-use the Dutch reach
I'm not saying this is bad, but if you don't publicise stuff how the hell is anyone supposed to know? Apparently it comes on in the new year- so like 7 hours from now!
I should say that as a professional driver I do these anyway.

As much as I want to know what a Dutch reach is, there's no way I'm Googling that on my work computer!

As a public service, I HAVE Googled it...and it's not what you think!
It's actually just opening your door from the inside using the opposite-side hand, thus forcing you to turn your head outwards and hopefully spotting any cyclists.

As someone that has had car doors opened on me when skateboarding this is a good thing. Most of the other stuff seems to be formalising things I suspect a fair amount of drivers already do (or would hope they would!).

Nothing about cyclists abiding by road signals, laws and safety then? I’m sure it’s in there, some just choose to ignore it, just like millions of car drivers break the speed limit daily, or run red lights themselves etc etc etc And no I’m not a cyclist

To be fair after a youth wearing headphones crossed the road and walked straight into my stationary car I always let people cross now if I'm approaching, save being the "at fault" person.

All of which are sensible and practised by competent drivers.
I question the enshrinement in law of 1.5 metres clearance for a cyclist; not only is this insufficient, but it's exactly the right distance to ensure that should the cyclist take a tumble whilst one is overtaking, the overtaking vehicle will crush their head. The nanny state use of ridiculous expressions such as "Dutch reach", and detailing which hand one should use, rather than making a perfectly reasonable demand that one checks properly prior to any action does not contribute to road safety.

Nothing about cyclists abiding by road signals, laws and safety then? Yawn. Most cyclists follow the rules like most car drivers do - I'd argue moreso because the dangers to cyclists are far greater if they don't. Like any walk of life there are always exceptions.

There is often a clear distinction to be made between "cyclists" and normal people who sometimes ride bicycles.
