ive painted a strut brace, and the process was
clean off allold paint, then panel wiped it.
scotched it
then 2 coats of etch primer from a can, left it 10 mins between coats
then 10 mins later some high build
then left for a day, and painted in 2k white.
2 days later, i put my nail into it and i can scratch it off
is that normal as in its not set right or is there soemthing wrong?
thanks

When did you do it? The temperature and dew point haven't been conducive to painting ay home recently.

I just use 2k straight onto the clean, abraded surface. I have fence posts, gates, suspension parts, decorative windmills and other stuff done like that. Mix with a generous amount of activator and apply by brush

did it the other night, i heated it up first with a heat lamp, then painted it. I have had it on my radiator for the last two days at home too, do you think its the thinners etc in the paint needing to evaporate before i have painted over it? the scratch goes down to the metal with my nail.

its having the filler work done now, and its in etch primer, i need to make sure its right as ive stripped the car of paint 2 times now!

Is it proper 2k, not isocyanite-free 2k? I've heard the latter can remain soft for months.

oh ok, so its been on my radiator here inside for a few days and its hardened right up. So i think when ive been doing the mini in the past, it not get hot enough and the paint has stayed soft and solvents are still in it.
THe whole point of doing the strut brace was to learn for doing more on the mini... thanks!

Isn’t etch primer old hat now? I used to epoxy primer on my last job, can be sprayed onto pretty much anything, plus it’s not 2k. I used Lechler which had enough build to be flatted back. It also has a recoat window of between 3 - 7 days.
What hardner did you use - I painted my van last winter and used express hardner, good down to 5 degrees.

Yes epoxy is my go to now it sticks well, doesen't really sink, brushes easily and just about anything goes over it. Only place I use etch is alloy.

Lechler 29107 epoxy is definitely 2K, jgtr were you meaning it's isocyanate free?
