Looking for a new torque wrench for general automotive hobby use - suspension rebuild, A-series cylinder heads, that sort of thing. Current Norbar SL2 (of some 25 years' vintage) isn't adjusting smoothly anymore, so I'm fairly sure it's no longer accurate. Having been given a couple of Machine Mart vouchers for my birthday I was looking at 1/2 inch drive ones, something like these: Teng - 1292AG-E4 Angular Gauge 1/2" Drive Clarke - PRO237 1/2” Drive Digital Electronic Advice gratefully received; thanks in advance. Steve

I'd recommend the Halfords Advanced wrenches, unless you need one with a higher range.
They are made by Norbar, exactly the same, bar halfords only do one up to 300 Nm, I went for the Norbar Nortorque 340 which is one step up.

Norbar are industry standard in pretty much every industry you can think of, from automotive to plant to aerospace to marine to production line and food.
You’d have to have a damn good reason to buy anything else given their price and prevalence.

Thanks folks, not sure what's up with the links as they work on my laptop but not my phone. Looks like I should stick with Norbar/Halfords then and use the giftcards at MM for something else. Ta Shame I don't have a Halfords trade card!

That's an idea (no idea of cost). I guess that would mean sending it back to Norbar? Just looked - they're in Banbury, so not a million miles from Reading. Heck, I'll give them a ring - least they can do is laugh

I suspect Norbar will help you they have been around for many years it may just want cleaning out? Its like most thigs you get what you pay for The Old Britool ones are excellent and not expensive used, I have a few spare ones depending on what you need?

I've only got Halfords ones, they're ace and when I blew my big one up doing something silly last year they swapped it out even though it was obviously a user issue.

Another vote for Halfords here: I use a 3/8" and a 1/2" almost daily with no complaints, and they were well priced with a trade card.

was in Halfords last week, lad in front of me at the till had bought his torque wrench back as he had bent it they just dropped it in the bin behind the till and got a new one, legend. god knows how they managed to bend one, I managed to shear the square drive on an old torque wrench that was well out of calibration but it certainly didn't bend! Transit hub nuts are bloody tight...

Get your current one checked/calibrated/serviced ? 100 % this. I wouldn't buy anything if the Norbar can be serviced.
