Normally, at this time of year, I do some great car journeys. These include, previously anything from going to the Evo Triangle, to other places, like Spain, and even more great places when we used to take sheddy cars, to the depths of Slovenia, Italy and so on.
While, I was quietly hoping a friend and I could take a sheddy old Merc for little money to the Artic Circle, Covid somewhat curtailed those plans. With plans and ratings changing left, right and centre, I sacked off any idea of going on an annual pilgrimage to Europe. That's not to say I didn't have anything on the table in the UK!
Around the time of the Retro Rides Weekender, one of the chaps came up with a plan. It was a plan that had me wondering in some ways, and also had me looking forward to more things in others. It's fair to say many of us agreed to do this.
I then had to decide on a car. Having some form of an X factor, and being practical was key. Having Estates almost immediately resolves the issue. But there is still a choice
The Mondeo 2.5T was out. Despite being the most modern, it's now very tired. It's ironically the worst riding car out of my fleet, but I plan to rectify that soon
The M3 I debated, but I also took that out. I was thrilled to get it running again after it didn't do anything for 5 months, amidst mojo loss, a house move, unit move to the house, and more! So much so that frankly, I didn't really stop driving it as the sun was shining! But it does look a little second rate on the body these days, and camping gear does take up alot of space, when there are two of you coming along for the ride in one motor.
This obviously left one car. At the time of the RRW, this car wasn't even ready. It had no front end, no cooling system, no confidence in the brakes, or even driving it anywhere for any length of time! Yup, I am referring to the ST220. The car that looked frankly a little like a joke when I got it. It was the car that hadn't done a long journey for at least 2-3 years prior to me getting it ready! It was the car where alot of uncertainty was around it! But uncertainty and trepedition is how this place works right?
So, I had a car, but I didn't have a working one. However, deadlines always make us work faster. The thread for that will detail how I got it ready in time.
With that done, I picked up Rich, and we headed over to Deepest Darkest Lincoln. But what did we have planned there?
Well, I'll leave this image here for now. Some may find the scenery a little familiar.
At RRW, many of us decided we had enough of camping. What do folks say about being a glutton for punishment?
