Seen a lot on here about stretched tyres but what about the reverse. Big bulging tyres on narrow rims - personally think they look the dogs 'nads! What do you think? Pic of my marina van running 215/50 (rears) rubber on 5.5J rims

I dig it....
My beetle was running 205/55's on 6J rims, and that looked as good as that ^^
Non right-fitting tyres in general FTW!

Whilst my mind says that sideways loads on a stretched tyre will push the bead into the rim...It also says that the above will be pulled off the rim :/ But it looks good *n

I love it. I have always tended to fit wider than normal tyres to my VW's and untill I changed to gemini alloys I had 195 55's and 195 65's on standard 4 inch VW rims and it looked wicked. You can just make out the stretch on the fronts in this shot; Dave

Whilst my mind says that sideways loads on a stretched tyre will push the bead into the rim... Eh? Let me don my Captain Obvious cape. (Cape on) But a rim has both inner and outer lips. Now re-read your post. (Cape off)

Just checked a Revo; it's a couple of mm. *n With air in the tyre the side of the tyre is pushed firmly against the outside rim which is bigger than the inner bead. Stretched tyres naturally want to pull the sides in so the pressure is on the smaller inner lip. I personally think there is a lot less risk of tyre failure this way round than stretched but I'm no tyre engineer so who knows. All I know is I have been doing it this way for at least 10 years and never had a problem. Dave.

Now re-read your post. (Cape off) Nick, maybe I was too obtuse. Sideways loads have the opposite effect on each side of the same tire. The Cap'n O part, is meant to point out that there is an inner and an outer bead/lip interface. Under sideways loads one side of the tire is being pulled off the bead, the other into the bead. Your post spoke of pushing into the bead as the reason you think stretched are better. Cap'n O is saying, oh? What about the other side of the tire! No pounding intended. Lightness and snuggle bunnies all around. Leaping faeries. And puppies.

165 on a 4.5: Definitely liking the oversized low profile look - there used to be a few bugs and buses about running a similar look.
