I'm going to scratch an itch & view an E50 3.2td highway star this week. I've done basic checks but interested in any real life issues & mpg, parts availability etc. It looks like it's a 6 stud pcd so wheel options too? Pic for attention

The 3.2 is a good solid lump, gear driven cams so no belts or chains to worry about, runs around town will see 18-20mpg whereas a good run may see you over 30mpg. Parts are readily available and shared with early Terranos if it's 4x4. PCD is 6x139.7(5.5") I drove to Italy in mine in one sitting, 1200 miles and only stopping for fuel and it didn't put a foot wrong.

Can't help on the E50, I have an E51. However, the advice I can give is give the owners forum a wide berth. It's got a lot of information, but its cancer. There have been attempts to clear it up, but the bullying and abuse comes from the top. You can get a lot of parts from here - bmr-automotive.com/, here www.autojapspares.com/index.php? and here www.japsspares.com/Loads of stuff is just available from the usual sources

I've got an e51 2.5 as a family motor and it's wonderful! Not much help, I know... Good luck with the viewing!

I also have an E51 but the 3.5 and as a family car its fantastic very good spec and so much cheaper than a vw transporter, I will say the E50 does feel more top heavy than the E51.

I have a late E51 Rider S 3.5. Nice bit of kit.
The E50s suffer a lot worse with rust and feel a lot heavier is the only real recollection I have from the ones we have worked on.
