Caught my eye in my Pistonheads newsletter this morning: What do ya reckon? (and yes, the photos are the finished, real, item!) I'm torn......I like the nose but the back looks a little CRX-y for my liking - needs a bit more detail to it, maybe. Those wheels would look better darker in my eyes...bit too shiny!

No. They've widened the bodywork too much (and more than the drawing would suggest). The upshot of which is the wheels are lost inboard, and the whole lot ends up resembling some tuppaware barry-kit. Too many of the lines look very 'sharp' when compared to the concept. Not hugely impressed.

Yea - I know what you mean - I like the concept drawing a lot but some of the 'finesse' and delicacy of it seems to have been lost in translation!

Certainly an interesting thing, They`ve obviously gone to a lot of trouble, and I reckon it hasnt turned out absolutely 100% as they intended, but its at least a million times better than the cube the GTV would have been turned into, and thinking about in terms of the real world, if someone said "Fancy running this for a few days" well you would, wouldnt you?
It grows on you the more you look at it, actually.

Did they allow the builder to look at the plans/design?

Almost,.. the original design has a subtle curve to the front and rear that is missing from the final version

Forgot to say the design idea looks awesome but is nowhere near what the finished version is like theres curves going the opposite way etc.

Fantastic amount of work which looks very well executed. So near but so very far though. The rear end is just too generic for me, has no Alfaness (?) remaining. The lack of curve-in on the mid to lower section of the forward edge of the front wings is the most glaring difference which makes it look too squared off. Top respect for the work involved, but I can't love it personally.

I remember mention of this way back and the design really had me thinking of mine and what I could rip-off - but the end product has me slamming the standard motor and looking at a clean stock job with the horrendous 70's graphics in situ. They definietly 'Bill Murray' -ed it!

I agree.
The standard car restored and slammed on the wheels it was wearing in the before pics.
Say no more. ;D

It`s no more jarring and angular than an SZ, and I`ve always like them. Could really do with a profile shot.

The front end is clumsy compared to the design drawings but fair play to them for having the vision to do it! It hasn't worked out 100% but who here could honsetly say that they could get it spot on? I think we're being a bit quick to criticise as it has taken a lot of time, skill and patience to create.

The drawing looks hot, but the actual car just looks like a brick I think. I love it between the bootlid and the front windscreen though

Love the idea, and the first couple of pictures look good. But the three quarter views show it to be a bit ill-proportioned, too wide and the wheels are too big for its length. It makes it somehow look like a remote control car. And the back end just looks a bit tacky.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

On the whole, I like it. Yes, it's a bit more boxy than the drawing, and I think the back end would benefit from the definition the colours of the lights would give, rather than one long black strip, but I think that they are just minor observations. Altogether, damn good work, and pretty visionary. But that's just my opinion.
