I apologise for the non retro content but I'm getting a noise when braking in my Mondeo (mk3). It sounds like driving away with the handbrake on but only when coming to a stop from speed or braking coming down a hill. Definitely coming from the rear, I'm thinking seized or seizing caliper? Drivers disc looks marginally cleaner than the passenger one. Any help would be appreciated, ive now got 3 broken cars out of 3  |

Sounds like pads or shoes are worn. Sometimes they wear unevenly so when you look at the pad on the outside it looks fine. You also don't see the brake pad wear sensor turning on the warning light because it's on the pad which hasn't contacted. Some cars have pads and shoes at the rear.

Inner rear pad is worn to the backplate.
Fit new pads quick before you need new discs.

In my experience unless I'm 100% on the cause of something I tend to leave the ordering of parts until it is all in pieces and I know what I must get to fix it.

Its also worth checking that both handbrake arms on each rear caliper are returning fully  |

Cheers guys, ive got the Astra to use for now so the next time it moves will be going to the garage. Hopefully iys just pads or sticky sliders  |

Those sliding calipers never slide equally, did mine recently for exactly the same reason/sound. 3 pads had about 7mm of pad, one was worn to backplate.

Thats what the guy i use said, pretty common on a Mondeo apparently and he reckons he can sort it with new pads and some time spent cleaning thr sliders up |
