This has probably been mentioned here before but as some of you are probably aware back in the 80’s BMW teamed up with Michelin and created a metric rim and tyre combo. However metric tyres are now hard to find and very expensive, so my question is has anybody on this forum successfully and safely fitted normal tyres to a metric rim?

However metric tyres are now hard to find and very expensive, so my question is has anybody on this forum successfully and safely fitted normal tyres to a metric rim? No. Unless you have a wheel meaty enough to have it machined down to an ‘imperial’ size then there isn’t a way to fit them. |

Afraid not.
This is why some folks shudder when cars come with metric wheels.
But they are a good talking point, and many are now wanting originality back.
What car is it?
On a number of older cars now, without going commercial, classic tyre places are about your only choice anyway.

What's the size difference? Be interesting if you could build them up to fit. Not sure I'd want to turn them down much

most likely 390mm if its a bmw, that equates to 15.35"
so you would need enough meat in the rim to be able to take 0.175" off the seat and the rim (4.45mm)
