Regarding the two "simple mods" recently started, got me wondering about new minis...
One of the things I'm not keen on is the black A/B/C pillars around the car. Looks fine on a black one (obviously!) but I wonder if anyone has ever wrapped or painted the pillars in body colour?
No idea what to search for, so if anyone has any ideas or pics/photoshop?
Thanks in advance

Seriously - i like black pillars as they tie in with the glass giving a solid black block appearance.

You can only really do the front a pillars on an r50/53 as the rear side glass wraps around and covers the c pillars. This was changed on the later r56 minis that gained a plastic cover between rear window and rear side glass.

Painted A pillars could look ok as above, though the 'floating roof' is part of the look of the car and body coloured pillars all round would look a bit odd.
IMO, obviously.

Thanks all
@hotwire that does look good, just needs B+C pillars doing as well.
I'd love a rat-look something, anything, but SWMBO doesn't appreciate the all the various churches of automotive modifying...

I remember being at a show somewhere and seeing a classic mini with the blacked out pillars to emulate the new mini look.
I was horrified, almost angry even.
I've always loved the classic mini, since childhood. But I'm slowly coming round to the new ones (only taken twenty one years!)

@hotwire that does look good, just needs B+C pillars doing as well. Except it doesn't have B and C pillars as they are inside the glasshouse. The front pillars are covers though and removable if that is of any help to you

Yes, you could have vinyl wrap applied on the glass to replicate b and c pillars. Bought my son an r50 mini one 7 limited edition and the wife has an r52 Cooper a convertible. They are good little cars, feel solid and the convertible doesn’t really suffer scuttle shake as much as I expected, but I digress.

As said, you could replicate having pillars but I think it may look odd without something to ‘finish’ the edges if you know what I mean?

They are good little cars Little is not really a word I'd use in connection with a BMW mini Actually I'd say the first gen mini is small in comparison to it's contemporaries and certainly compared to modern cars, this is coming from a serial classic mini owner who used to hate them with a passion because it wasn't a real mini! Is it small compared to a classic mini? No.....but not much is. I also have an 2002 R53 Cooper S and it's a brilliant little car, little supercharged engine that sounds amazing, handles brilliantly, looks that have aged very well in my opinion and it has a dedicated following, I definatley think of it as a modern classic, it certainly leaks oil like a classic car anyway! The question is, is it too new to be on here? is it retro? opinions will vary of course and this is a topic that crops up from time to time on here with arguments for both sides. Obviously I like them and find them interesting but then again there are other platforms out there for these cars. One day maybe, seeing as petrol cars are going the way of the dodo.....

I'm also a serial classic Mini owner, and I really wasn't keen on the BMW Minis until I saw what Rover had planned for it's replacement.

I'm also a serial classic Mini owner, and I really wasn't keen on the BMW Minis until I saw what Rover had planned for it's replacement. I remember seeing this concept and thinking "why didn't they build this!?" Despite being a lifelong Isigonis mini fan, I think the R53 might be a good car for me. After twenty years of seeing them around I think I've finally got over it! Not the bloody great big new new new minis! I think I'm going to find it tough, there's certain colours I don't want, I don't want stripes all over the place, ideally I want the chrono pack to reduce the impact of the dinner plate in the centre of the dash (despite that kind of dash being my favourite in the classic mini!) and I think I need a facelift with chilli pack to get the LSD... So it's taken 20yrs,and I'm still building barriers! And I will insist on calling it a bini as well...
