Recently bought a new house and in the attic was a cool 8 track player and a massive box of 8 tracks all knackered from the cold etc of the attic.
Anyone any ideas of something cool they coild be repurposed into?

Is it a car or home 8 track player?
If you have a home hifi, and don't just want to play the 8 tracks, you could gut it and hide a small form media player inside.

It's a home 8 track, actually Preet cool wee box, with some speaker that match. It was more the cassettes themselves, there's a big box of them left behind by the previous owners and it seems a sin to chuck them, but they are also knackered. Will have to get my thinking hat on.

They were in an old suitcase in the attic with plenty of mold, some of the cassettes were also moldy, assume they would be past there best lol.

Yeah they’re probably perfectly fine. Just wipe the grot off before playing them

I've got an old non working Rexton 8 track in my beetle and was thinking of modifying an 8 track tape to hide my phone in as the hidden modern headunit has bluetooth. Just need to pick up a cartridge to play around with at some point.
I've seen a few modified to hold a Raspberry Pi or a dock for an ipod.

If anyone is interested I have a car 8 track player, converted to also have an iPod dock, that also receives FM radio - quite a rare combo. Comes with a box of 75 retro 8 tracks!
I’m after about £100 for the lot.

ckerr, frodo, I'm looking for two-ish specific 8-track cartridges, if anyone has them. The first is a "Motoring Sounds" or "Music to Drive By" (I presume that's "music by which to drive", not sounds specifically selected to play while you're conducting a drive-by shooting) and it has a picture of a HP Firenza (Droopsnoot) on it, not the more usual Jensen Interceptor. The other is anything by The Stranglers on 8-track.

Worth a try, thanks for asking. I always search through the boxes of cartridges when I see them at autojumbles, but they're usually the same dealers with the same stock. I think the Stranglers ones are American-issue anyway, so less likely to be just floating around.

I'll keep my eye out over this side of the pond. I rarely see any 8 track tapes, but you never know!
The radio station I worked at in high school had a lot of albums on 8 track, we also did all our PSA and commercials on 8 track. This was 1990-1994.
