Malton, North Yorkshire, in early April is perhaps not a place you would typically expect to find the sights and sounds (and smells) of a height of summer, top flight car show.
However it is where you could, until very recently, find Specialist Cars of Malton an independent Porsche dealer who held just such an event.
2017 was the third time I'd been to this and appeared to be the year the word had properly got out.
Open to anything and everything cool, it took over an industrial estate for most of the day. I don't believe it was curated as such, simply first come first served as far as getting onto the estate. Every tiny morsel of car parking was occupied, so much so an adjoining field acted as an overflow car park, which is where I ended up getting parked up.
A police presence controlling traffic meant there was no sketchy behavior though some noise and measured acceleration was jovially endorsed.
Now, not everything that is contained within is strictly speaking RetroRides fodder, however, on balance it had decidedly retro feel.
Pair of Fords were the first to turn my eye
Early TT 'vert in an awesome colour with the wheels & lowering treatment
Super clean GTE
Lightweight RS1600i
I always loved the green badging on Fiesta RS Turbos
Dusty B-road blaster
Coupe comparison
'...Diablo headlights...'
'...VW van engine...'
'...Celica engine in the back...'
Dagenham icons
Essex stereotype
Svelte
Lister Stratos recreation
S1 RST with a cheeky upgrade.
Wild arched R34
Late non-whale tail Escort Cosworth
Best colour for a modern 911?
Fancy bois
Chris' low number NSX
Local Scirocco I see about
This is a much cooler colour in real life
You don't see enough Starmags
Reminds me of my first modified car, just much, much cleaner. And with cooler wheels
CVH Scimitar
More Porsche goodness
Visually, my perfect Evo
Definitely a colour that looks better in person
Private plates don't always work, but...
Mega. Exip Mega, infact
ClioSport V6
Nicely finished 300series Volvo
Time attack
It's been said before but I'll say it again; the E39 M5 is the high water mark for BMW
Mario GTR
A 70s Jag in the 70s colour
A standard R34 seems like a rare thing
Cassis Red. Another awesome colour that needs to be seen
When a 3 series was a small car
There were also legitimate classics knocking about
Really feeling this. Standard(ish), steels, clean, low.
A bit of muscle of different flavours
Another V6 Clio
Impossibly clean bay for a car that drove there. Admittedly, I don't know from how far that drive was.
Specialist car had opened their workshop to the public
Another car that gets around
Sapphire tucked away
Esprits are looking more attractive every year
A brace of thoroughbreds
I'll always have big love for these
Antz' drift missile
Pretty car
I'm interested in an Insight
PV, rarely seen at shows
And to round it off we have Ste's 245 and Ryan's 745.
And that was that.
Enjoy.
