Hello people of Retro Rides, been around for a while but only now getting round to posting my car. Owned my 318Ti for around 3 years now and have been attacking it bit by bit for a while now. May be a bit of a pic heavy post but please bare with me.
So bought the car 3 years back and it looked like this stock 1.9 M44 engine with a de-cat, eBay coilovers installed, modified lock hubs, welded 3.38 diff, deep dish steering wheel and had the rear seats removed. Sporty
Over the first year I'd dailied it so progress was quite slow, main things that were changed were swapping out the eBay coilovers for a set of HSDs with adjustable top mounts and a PMC short shifter kit
(The hydro install and centre console was an embarrassment and has since been tidied up)
After being told off multiple people that it would be too slow to drift and that it would be rubbish i went ahead and put 70 psi in the rear tyres and from then on I was hooked
So after a year or so of that I was improving my driving skill and thus getting faster and faster so I had a great idea, time for a power boost. Got a good deal on an M52B28 out of an average mile z3, remapped raised rev ECU, and everything else for a conversion. Excellent!
Then I inevitably crashed it 18 seconds later
Cue the music, time for a rebuild. Not much different other than M3 bumper and splitter, a pair of Racinghart Superlative D/Spec wheels on the front paired with Buddy Club P1s on the rear, Nardi steering wheel, Sparco Pro 2000 seat on Driftworks rail and a lick of paint.
Then after some more abuse I thought the diff exploded, not at all, I just snapped my car in half.
So out came the welder and hammers and red bull and copious amounts of Lambert and Butlers. Using a small case diff back plate from an E36 I adapted the chassis to take a twin pick up diff plate after beefing the rear up and polybushing the whole back end.
The car needed a refresh after another slight mishap so before paint I'd fabricated some BN Sports style wings, fitted some Borbet CW wheels and that is us up to right this second.
I also heave a set of Work Equip 05s to be fitted at some point
Got more planned very soon and i look forward to keeping you all updated over the build. Cheers for checking in.
