I’m doubtful any of us would come across these when buying cars all that often, this is probably the sort of thing taxi drivers of high HIGH end motors are going to be using to help their resale value on stuff like mercs and BMWs and it’s unlikely that a regular car owner would ever bother. Interesting that it can be done however. Although I imagine it probably does flag up on a DTC check as a CAN-BUS comms fault.
