Pug 106 lowrider! (gold-plated Wellers...someone's gonna need a tissue!) Very sexy Corolla...just one of many old school Toyota pics at www.teamtoyminator.org. The boys over on the www.vwvortex.com forums are always on a tyre stretching tip...this is a 165/45/15 on a 7.5 rim: 235/35 on a 10" rim: not crazy enough? How about a 225/35 on a 10"? On a different note, here's two letters and two numbers that spell a four-letter word....A,E, 8 & 6 spell... HARD.

That 106 is just vomit-inducing! What's the deal with tyres and rim widths? Is stretching narrower tyres over wider rims OK? I could really do with slightly narrower tyres on the front of my Merc - I have 215/40/16's on 8.5J rims at the minute but with no PAS and lowered suspension the steering is a killer! Would dearly love to fit 195 or 205's but I was told 215 is the narrowest I can go on that rim

Seeing that Mk3 on steels the other day with the tyres stretched got me wondering,.. how safe are those stretched tyres for day to day use,.. seeing as my better half occasionally uses the car to go to work (which is a motorway journey),...??

I have never had any issues with my stretched tyres. The fronts are 195/45/15 over a 7 inch rim, the rears are the same tyre over an 8 inch rim.
These aren't stupid stretched but still give the Euro look (and help getting the wider wheels under the arches)
I do 90 miles a day, a mixture of (greasy) country roads and motorways. Very controllable grip, no rolling of the sidewall etc.
As long as you make sure the pressures are correct and you use quality rubber then there shouldn't be a problem.

OK then, REALLY DUMB QUESTION TIME! When I get the new wheels on my 318, what pressures should they run at? Current tyres are 185/60/14's on 14x6 BBS New ones will be 205/40/17's on 17x7.5 BK Alpina replicas..... I don't really want them to be over/under inflated as this will a. make them wear stupid quick and b. be bloody dangerous! Anyone care to enlighten me and/or throw rocks at my head for being so thick on these issues....

Anyone care to enlighten me and/or throw rocks at my head for being so thick on these issues.... Can I just say that I went on a Seicento forum last night to ask where to fill the washer bottle So no question is too dumb

So no question is too dumb Although perhaps that spelling justifies a little rock-lobbing....

Regarding the steering - is the front higher than the back? A nose down stance will give lighter steering due to the different castor angle. (someone really clever will come and correct me now, I bet!)

Can I just say that I went on a Seicento forum last night to ask where to fill the washer bottle So no question is too dumb I know what you mean about the washer bottle - if someone ever needs to use a car to smuggle diamonds into the country, use a Seicento and hide them in the washer bottle - no curse word will ever find them!! Rmad - I'll post some more pics of the Merc. It look a bit forlorn since the accident , but I'll take a few snaps from its good side before I start work on it ;D

That 106 is so wrong its right, the Corolla is making me moist, not sure what the point in streching the tyres is, looks kinda weird imo and if whipped that spoiler off the AE86 it'd be scarier than trying to grab hold of a Rotweilers dangly bits.

You gotta admit it's a good, cheap way of getting some bling. From a distance, and if you squint a bit, you could amost mistake them for the gold (speedline?) rims from a clio williams.... ;D
