A friend is working his way through tidying up his 305 van, they were a very popular workhorse here in Ireland. He wants to drop it about 2 inches on wide steels, anyone any info on springs for the rear? It's a strange setup, the spring is massively long and stiff when uncompressed.

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

Easier said than done. Like how much do you cut off, or how do you spec you want for a shorter one?

Well most people just chop a bit and see what happens tbh.
If you really wanted to get more technical you could try and calculate it from the spring rate, spring ratio (if any), corner weights of the car etc. If you get someone to make you a set of springs they will probably do it for you to some extent but you would have to supply at least some of the data I guess.
In summary fit coilovers lol
