Me and the Boss have been talking camper vans...
Went to view a VW T25 Devon camper, and came away disappointed with the bed space, we don't have a fortune to spend possibly 6k what are our options for a reliable mid sized camper ,Bongo, Chevy Astro, ??

I'm a VW guy. Have owned more than I can remdmber. I cureently have a Vw t4 that I'm rebuilding. But if you're just after a decent van to convert into a camper, and arent a "badge snob"....you really cant beat a Ford transit. Find a decent non-rusty one and you cant go wrong. Internally they are bigger than a t4. And you could buy a semi-hightop giving more height

My daughter has a Bongo. Fantastic bit if kit, in usual fashion watch for rust, they tend to go around the arches & sills, but lots have already been done. Every electrical switch etc works just as intended, oh so typically J’ Overall great things

I'm on my second self build camper right at the moment using a 2008 Renault Master LWB medium roof height. If you are ok with the diy aspect of life, you would have no problem building one to your requirements. My van cost me £2500 and will spend around the same on kitting it out. For that price we will have a double fixed bed with proper 12v compressor fridge, hot & cold water inc shower and a diesel night heater. Check out Self build campervans on FB amongst plenty others!
Almost forgot, there are thousands of self build you tube vids!

I had a 2wd Bongo about 10yrs back, the 4wd should have different size tyres front to back, and the club reported some diff problems for those using tyres with same size, I had an LSD on mine, apparently look for a splodge of yellow paint on the diff. Brilliant bit of kit, look out for rust on rear arches and signs of head gasket failure on the 2.5TD. A lot have a coolant alarm fitted that the club "Bongo Fury" sold. The interior spec varies, electric blinds over manual etc but the rear air con/heating should be freezing/toasty on all. Electric roof is a bit clever, early ones had side lifting rear seats to increase boot space, but all seat come out easy to make a van. I got 27mpg on diesel out of mine, and it got driven quite hard.

6k!!!!! Am i missing something? That would normally get you a good one. As for original quesion, keep looking at different conversions. My bedford has a huge bed, bigger than a king size, but not all have. Its an autosleeper and the front seats also become part of the bed so it doesnt even take up any living space. Can camp all weekend with the bed down if you don't mind using the bed as seating.

VW I thought 6k was a bit steep, looks like scene tax is starting to affect prices. 🤔😁

Ive never liked vw campers anyway.

He is properly loaded & pretty much everything he has is mega dosh
