On wet and rainy days like today, i like to surf the web, and end up searching for photos of my own cars, past & present. Which leads me to this question.....(with the exception of the great folk on this here forum) what ever happens to the majority of those photo that people take at car shows and the like, are they downloaded onto there own computers and thats it, never to be shared or even put up on forums, ive search and have come back with very few photos of my cars, but have seen photographers snapping away around my cars getting close ups of engine bay, i have even been asked to close the bonnet on a few occasions, so they can get a smoother shot of the car. I did find my silver Supra G33 WTW showing up on an estate agents advert for a house in a quaint village once, i was in the pub at the time. (gone to see if i can find that picture) "Found it" Do you find your cars showing up on internet after show's or is it.....they just don't like my rides. **By the way all the ones on Flickr taken by shagracer are mine own photographs** 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo by shagracer, on Flickr

What did we do with all these photos before forums and social media anyway? I always took a roll or two of film at every show i went to in the 90s and early 0-ties (before I went digital) and the best ones might have gone into frames on the wall, the rest went straight into albums or the shoebox. I do look through them occasionally when I'm reminded of an old car or event.
Those of you in your 40s or older will remember the mutimedia spectacular that was the family slide show (the younger ones are lucky to have missed this!) when you'd all be squeezed into a darkened living room with all the neighbours to see their horrible holiday photos. Often upside-down or two dozen shots of the same people standing in front of the Eiffel Tower/ Buckingham Palace/ Staue Of Liberty etc. That's how we shared photos back in the day.

Every time I see the Taj Mahal on tv it takes me back to a slideshow in our house when I was a child so I guess a relative or family friend visited in the early 80s. Not got a clue who though

My "pictures" folder on my hard drive contains 127,720 files. Admittedly not all of those are cars or car shows, but there are a lot of those admittedly. I probably need to learn to be more discerning. I certainly wouldn't presume to put even a third of those up on t'internet. I don't have time and neither does anyone else

I find wannabe "professional" photographers at car shows at least as annoying as "music aficionados" recording gigs on their phone, ruining the experience for everyone else. shagracer , did you need to ask for forgiveness or for permission for the pic in front of Wells cathedral?

I have a large plastic crate of all the photos in print form that I have left from when I started photography 33 years ago. There are thousands and thousands of them. I go through them on a fairly regular basis.
Plus I also have an enormous amount of digital files, with 1270-odd of the Midas project alone.
I will (eventually) get round to scanning everything - currently have 15 years' worth of negatives to get through. I do have the scanner for it but it takes a lot of time...

When looking for cars, are you just searching for the number plate or are you using a picture search with a feature or a rare colour?

normally I bang in the registration number, then the name of event, town name then a variation of all with classic car show thrown in.

I sadly only have A single photo abum of my past beauties, after umpteen house moves and relationship break ups,as i have never owned a smart phone or a didgital camera I fear they will remain printed photos, never destined for digital art form

I take hundreds of photos just to try and get one that looks half decent. Having a digital camera is bad for me, I think last year I took almost 50,000 pictures! Most of them are rubbish too! Writing My stupid blog I take hundreds of photos, for instance... Just one of 137 photos of my beetle that I took that day. 1 made it into my blog, this one and four others made it to farcebook, and the other 132 went no further than my hard drive.where they'll stay until something catastrophic happens to my hard drive, and then they'll be lost forever!
