I'm getting fed up with inert Paint Strippers, and having to put on 6 coats to get 3 layers of paint off, what have you lot in my computer been using, Failing that, I may try and make some, my thoughts have gone to caustic soda crystals dissolved in water, and then added to wallpaper paste

Look up synstrip on eBay, proper old school stripper. I used it on an old slot machine I was restoring with 60 year old paint, & it lifted it right off.

I'll have to look out for that. I've been using the other recent wonder-stripper, Starchem, and I'm finding it's not doing all that much. Trouble is, I've got about 3 litres of the stuff left. Tempted to just source some of the active ingredient (dichloromethane? something like that*) and bung it in, rather than keep buying more.
(* at your own risk, check before buying, I might have remembered it wrongly, etc. etc. )
ETA - Oops, turns out "Starchem" is the makers name, and "Synstrip" is the product name. So I wonder what I'm doing that make it work less effectively than it does for the rest of you.

As10 paint stripper is what I use. Absolutely unbelievable stuff. Can actually watch the paint lift where you put it. My method is: apply liberally (but tidy)with paint brush and cover with plastic sheet for 10-15-20 depending on reaction Available from here: www.rust.co.uk/product/as10-resin-remover--55

Any dichloromethane based stripper is what you want. Type in industrial paint stripper on ebay, they're listed with a note about it can only be purchased for professional use.5 litres for under £25. Will eat paint, plastics and skin!

takes me back... that nitromores tingle. we have all been there...those "gloves are for pussies" days! I stripped an old staircase using the old Nitromors, it took forever, never again. I clearly remember that cold tingly feeling on the hands, not to mention the large quantity of braincells that will never be seen again after breathing in copious amounts of the fumes.

The "industrial" dichloromethane stuff you can get on eBay works fairly well for me. Burns on contact with skin and the fumes are nasty if your using it alot in a confined space but I haven't found anything else that removes powder coat properly. The cheaper ones tend to be a bit curse word or thinned so I tend to get a branded one, power strip worked well in the past.

Just buy dichloromethane off ebay. It's not controlled so you can add it to the starchem stuff for added potency..
Largely it depends on the paint tho. Starchem will work well if the paint cooperates. Other times it wont touch it.

I've used synstrip before and it does work pretty well. If it dries it is a fox picture to get off tho. Bin bags over the top works to keep the fumes and mess in and stop it drying too quickly.
