I’ve read loads of placing saying when fitting an electric fuel pump for running bike carbs: “that it needs to be mounted as low down as possible and as close to the fuel tank as possible”. Ok, but... Should the pump be below the fuel tank outlet? Is in line with the tank ok? Is slightly above the tank ok? Is the aim to have the pump gravity fed at all times? How close is close? As long as it’s not in the engine bay? 1/2 way along the chassis ok? 30cm or less? Trying to do a neat install, whilst adhering to the above (PLUS including a fuel filter before the pump) is getting more and more difficult... Random pictures of the underside/assorted bits of fuelling stuff so far...

IIRC I've read they need to be as close to the tank as possible, they don't like to suck at all (not sure why)
I think Facet do pumps that can suck for not a lot of cash?
Google "bike carb guide" and "bogg bros" for details

They should be gravity fed at all times, and mounted at the closest available point to the tank outlet. Remember though that you must use a bottom feed fuel tank with that type of pump.

I ended up swapping put the Honda pump that was engine bay mounted, to a Facet solid state one back near the tank. Mk2 Golf 1.3 on CBR600 carbs. The oe pump failed. The Facet is advertised as being able to lift fuel about a metre. Ran 110% from Ireland to the Ring, laps of the track and home again. I didn't fit a regulator either.
Noisy b'stard though, even rubber mounted.

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

That was a tank that had a top mounted outlet connection too.

Google "bike carb guide" and "bogg bros" for details yeah that's why i'm using a motorcycle fuel pump - as seemed preferable to more expensive facet pump + fuel pressure regulator

Yup - using a Capri 2.8i with the lower feed rather than via the sender on an non-injection tank. Also has the benefit of a built in swirl pot...

Noisy b'stard though, even rubber mounted. haha, yeah i suspect the one i've got ^^ is gonna be noisy af! Right now, i just want to get it up and running. I couldn't find a 2nd hand bike pump for reasonable money however aftermarket generic ones were dirt cheap. I know on my old e30 I used an aftermarket pump, and it was really loud...so kept it until i found a used genuine one.
