Son's bought a 30s bike with a two stroke engine, the ignition system is missing and might as well cost a million pounds so I have seen these home made and modified pit bike ones fitted so has any one done it? Something like this Remember it must be cheap or free! We had virtually nothing to fasten to so can't just graft a pit bike magneto on, so it must be triggered with a small sensor Once this is sorted we just need to make a set of wheels!

Watching with interest, nice project. I wonder if those engines you can still buy new to bolt onto a bicycle have anything useful on them?

You will need some sort of flywheel to make it run, possibly one from something like a mower or chainsaw then use the matching could to provide power for ignition. A possibly easier option could be a scratch built total loss system, a can on the crank triggering a set of points powered by a battery Ttfn Glenn

Problem is you can see all the issues with one photo, one side of the crank is for the engine fly wheel and the other is full of cogs so no room really, what we are thinking of is building the Hall effect one above as its a small sensor so should be easy to fix and hide. Its a total loss system so should run for about 4 hours before the battery's flat. You can buy one here, but its just over £50 and to be honest any saving is a good one as he needs the money for other stuff minimagneto.co.uk/Products.phpThis is how it should look We need the following not bothered about originality just wants to get it up and running, then restore it in the future Wheels ( we are Hoping Bantam or similar light weight utility type bike wheels can be made to fit) Mudguards Lights Mag Dynamo Exhaust Various other odds and ends we will know more once we collect it
