So I have a little Honda Vision, that I rode daily for a few years, I don't want to get rid of it, so I am planning on tucking it away at the back of the unit for a day in the future. What is the best way to prep it for storage, I assume clean it down, make sure there is plenty of air in the tyres... but what about fuel in the tank and carb... drain the carb and top the tank up? empty the tank. I don't plan on riding it again for at least a year or two...any advise is appreciated.

Plastic tank or metal?? If it's metal as I expect fill it up with a two stroke mix let it run till the mixed fuel gets into the carb and switch it off job done The fuel will evaporate over time but it will leave a oiley coating on the inside of the tank and the carb so the tank won't rust and the inside of the carb will just be oiley and not get that old dried out flakey petrol residue
Apart from that I wouldn't worry just chuck a cover over it and job done

You can buy fuel stabiliser, Putoline sell it, probably others as well. You just put it as an additive into the petrol, I put it in all my bikes & classic cars now even over the winter when they are sat

I'd definitely drain the carb. If its got a petrol tap just turn it off and run it until it dies.
If you can keep the weight off the tyres it might help, otherwise I just wouldnt worry about it.
If its not a dry environment where its going maybe wet all of the metal surfaces with WD40 to leave a thin film that will give a bit of protection but not be a pain to remove later.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Yes its a Metal tank, its a 2 stroke bike, and its self pre-mixing. So basically chuck a bit extra 2 stroke in the tank, fill the tank to the top, drain the carb and call it a day? It'll be dry stored in a garage with a cover over it and it has a center stand so no real weight on the front tyre.

I would second running it with the petrol tap off until dead as already stated. Cleaning out a gummed up carb unnecessarily isn’t fun when resurrecting a bike. Dried petrol will do that pretty easily
