Not enjoying:
- Large rust hole about 10cm from rear spring hangar that absolutely should not have passed MOT three months ago. - Saving up for having both sills done professionally in the winter. - Excessive exhaust noise from a leak.
Enjoying:
- Photos taken by a colleague on a fancy camera with some skill.

Looks cracking in those photos 😎 sorry to hear about it developing a speed hole. Hope you get it sorted out in time to enjoy it over the summer.

Very nice photos - car looks great. I've noticed, however, you've changed the speedo for the earlier 80mph gold-faced one. Any particular reason for that?

Car looks lovely, make sure you have a bit of cash in reserve, sills can easily get into A posts, floors and rear inner arches.

It really is one of the best owners clubs.

Well, it contrasts nicely with the wood-look dashboard.

What a lovely and well thought through little car this is. I love reading about it.
You don't live anywhere near Hertfordshire do you? I was working the other day and caught sight of a Moggy that looked very similar to this one?

I was working the other day and caught sight of a Moggy that looked very similar to this one? Cambridgeshire right now so unlikely, good to hear Moggys are seen about though. I used to see 2-3 others regularly when I lived in Ledbury (Herefordshire) but only seen a van and a nice 2-door infrequently here. Coming to the conclusion that Cambs is boring AF.

I've decided to build another engine for fun as I have a spare block and cylinder head lying about. It was a 1098cc but I recall reading about fitting a 948cc crankshaft plus mini 998cc rods to de-stroke it back to that capacity, but then overbore it to get near square bore/stroke that'll be smoother and more revvy. Flat tops plus a head skim to get some tidy compression.
To further smooth it out, is there anything people know of I can do beyond getting the crank, flywheel and clutch assembly all balanced?

A damped crank pulley from a classic mini is supposed to make a noticeable difference, a re-con dizzy so the sparks are evenly spaced is also worthwhile.
The other thing is some of the remanufactured engine mounts seem to be made of black concrete which doesn't help.

Did the maths on my fun short engine build and it comes out at 10.3:1 static comp, just like the old economy tuned Minis, and 8.37:1 dynamic comp with my current camshaft. I think that's acceptable territory in regards to pinking?
One regret I have about the current setup in the car now is lowballing the CR slightly, knowing I was going to tour around Europe a bit and not wanting to carry additives everywhere!

A little picture story of me finally getting around to uncovering what lied beneath after using the car for nearly a decade and the previous restoration being a "box-over" job.
I did much of the pulling to pieces (+ wincing & budgeting) and a local restoration shop did the melting metal together bit, but it still cost as much as a new car. One day I'll have a space where I can learn to do it myself.
It's is now sitting waiting for me to paint kick plates, decide what to do about sound damping, underfelt, carpet and also whether to change the seats again. I've never quite been happy with the MG Midget seats because, while soft and comfy, they offer no lateral support and are slippy leather. It's actually tiring keeping yourself in it when cornering
The pretty much completed engine is now just sat in my front room with a Nardi steering wheel I've restored. Gone is the battered light varnish - now just danish oiled - and a quick satin black job on the scratched metal. Could have just polished it but I find the stainless ones to be a bit too ostentatious for a Minor, personally.
I'm not sure if anybody else has ever been stupid enough to put a 948 crank in a 1098 block to make a 998 before, rather than using a 948 block. Custom double thrust washers to make it work were also expensive.

looks good, rust didn't look too bad for a minor, ours was rusted right up to the roof!
The frames that take modern mini seats look a good option.

I've acquired some Morris Marina seats. They look a little more supportive than Minor ones - but where to get them reupholstered, or do I learn to do it myself?!

Just seen this update. Nice work on the sills and floors! I've noticed rust coming through on the front of the o/s sill on my Traveller on the underside.

That's a nice tidy job. I have to get the sill covers off mine shortly so will be hoping for the best.

Good luck!
Still haven't got my crazy new engine build into the Minor - distracted by the Landcrab and now my friend has bought a T25 I'm going to help him with.

I only got mine back on the road this time last year and it's been in storage for the last month as I needed my lockup for my new toy a 1948 Standard 8. Need to buid storage for the Standard and then I can get the Morris back home.

What would the perfect "period modified" Minor look like? My thoughts include low-light front end conversion and wheel spats. At the idea phase right now... Reece Fish carburettor with laser-cut adapter, Marina torsion bars and rear ARB sourced for fun times, beyond the idea stage.

Looking forward to more updates on this whenever you get chance, I had been looking at fitting a set of van wheels on mine to make it a bit less ponderous and to accommodate the disks that are now on the front , ESM price is £700 plus vat for a set with 155 Toyos and new hubcaps so not sure if it’s worth the extra spending. Anyway here’s a pic of my Traf blue 4 door….
