Hi guys,
My mum has her eye on a '74 Beetle Cabriolet and I want to know what to look for when we have a viewing tomorrow.
Any tips or advice appreciated, as I don't really know a thing about them!
Cheers.

As it'll be a 1303 based cab, check all of the front suspension mounts and pay particular attention to all of the floor pan and bracings forward of the bulkhead. They rot like you wouldn't believe and as that's all thats holding the McPherson strut control rods in place you really want it to be solid.

Also, it is worth a helluva lot more if it is a Karmann Cab. Aftermarket soft tops generally are curse word. But some people love em I guess

take it for a test drive and make sure the steering doesnt wobble,if it does don't be fobbed off by 'oh the wheels need balancing' the '02 and 03' beetles are notorious for this and it can be a pain to sort out.

They REALLY are a lot of work, seriously.

I have 2, and both are rottenish, and probably getting worse. At least roobarb and custard has a car cover... but the other, I haven't even started her for a while. I need more skillz and motivation I feel guilty every time I see them.

Cheers. take someone who works on them day in day out to tear it to pieces.... they will find if there is something wrong with it watch out if its cheap and shiny..... its a turd.. just be very aware of not being able to lift carpets, check inner arches etc etc etc
