Unfortunately I’ve been stopped by the met today In my company vehicle for not wearing my belt No problem with that it’s my own fault for not putting it on Even though I told the officer I hoped he choked on his turkey this Xmas he did chuckle!, I did hold my hands up ,fair cop officer He said as I’ve no convictions I’ll be offered an awareness course, hopefully 30 quid instead of the 100 quid fine Now this has got me thinking the escort van we’ve built has harnesses fitted, so exactly how will roadside anpr van cameras see these? And how will a roadside check see them?? I’m sure they won’t be able to?? Anyone had any experience? Better add some pics on this thread

I guess you could use bright red belts/straps, like trucks do?

I have been running harnesses in road car for over ten years and only been pulled once for no seat belts when wearing them by two biker cops who required a visit to specsavers. Harnesses are perfectly legal providing they are fitted correctly as rallyc ars need to be road legal for example.
Side note - I wouldn't advice harnesses fitted if you don't have a roll cage or you are running standard seats.

Eh? ANPR looks for seatbelts now? That was my thoughts. I’m confused with the question? You have seat belts? End of surely

I remember getting a ticket in my lunatic days for not wearing a seatbelt even though I was, to be fair I was 18 the officer who was very sound saw me sliding around a roundabout in my e30 at night in the local boy racer haunt, gave me the no seatbelt ticket just so I had a little consequence rather than a full fat dangerous driving and due care meaning my licence would've been gone

Eh? ANPR looks for seatbelts now? That was my thoughts. I’m confused with the question? You have seat belts? End of surely Anpr vans park regularly near us They also take pics of non seat belt wearers A work colleague has just got a fine, clear picture of him with no seat belt on My question to put it clearly is how would they see a harness?? Nothing like a belt from the b piller?

A combination of ANPR & CCTV look for everything now - seatbelts / drivers on phones or simply just doing something that you should not be doing whilst driving - recent cases have been a HGV driver with a dinner plate perched on the steering wheel and eating from it whilst driving and a bloke in a car having a shave with an electric razor whilst sat at a set of lights - unsure has how you are going to prove that you were wearing a harness though.

You have to prove nothing. If a camera takes a picture & it looks like you ‘might not have a belt on’ so what? If they take an image & you are ‘clearly’ not wearing one that’s different.

I got fined a while back for not wearing my belt, fair enough i wasnt wearing my belt but the cop was an total jobsworth about it, no chance of me not wearing my belt now, my Cube shouts 'BING, BING, BING!' at me if I'm not wearing it, and doesnt stop. Ive never had harnesses in a road car so i cant help.

What I don't understand is why you think harnesses are harder to spot than a inertia belt. It's quite the opposite really. More straps. Often coloured etc.
I'd imagine it's spot checks with a human viewing the images rather than an automated process. I can't see how you could automate against all the variables and not get 1000s of false flags. (I work in that sort of thing) It must be at least be reviewed by a human.. At the end of the day tho. An image from an anpr camera will clearly show you wearing a harness so if you did end up a false flag you would just contest it and win.

I believe they look for the strap going up to thd B pillar, that said the same applies to this as any conviction, has to be proved beyond reasonable doubt, you may though have the hassle of going to court with pics of your car and harnesees etc to prove it.
