Hi all, so after selling my HA I was left with a car shaped empty space on my drive that needed filling. Most of the HA money went to the kids christmas presents and a few bills, but I kept some back for the next project as I always do and I've been looking for a CF off and on since I sold my last one... I had a few lined up but all were in a state and all had a hefty delivery charge, then one sunday morning, as the sun beams played across the laptop and dust motes shone like fireflies in the air, something came up on Facebook which was nearby, and very cheap, I messaged the guy, and with a trembling hand and a head bleary from the morning, I bought it, without seeing it, and I felt proud It showed up monday morning... OH MY GOD THIS THING IS RUSTY!!! Looks like I might need to get my welder out eh?

To be absolutely fair, the seller did tell me it was pretty rusty, but i just thought he meant in the usual way, I should've asked more questions really...but it was very very cheap and I wanted it, so there you go... Did I mention it was rusty??? Top of the screen... Top of side panel just behind driver seat... And this is seized solid I have my work cut out

I am speechless.
There is pain, and then there is PAIN.
You are a much better and stronger man than me.
I can only wish you everything you need to bring this to a happy conclusion.
Good luck brave man.

WOW. Panels come up, people have started making them again. A guy on facebook chops up better ones that that so screen surrounds and roof sections can be had (lots of people want them though). Its doable, obviously, but WOW. Love a cf me If you do weld it up then go wild, may as well, box arches, huge slots, sidepipes, v8, no guilt at all 😎

We’ve been restoring an early (1971) C.F. Dormobile, which has been with us for 3 years now. Bodywork-wise it was very similar to that, but it was running and driving and had only just failed it’s MOT on structural/welding.
The sides/roof and round the screen had to have panels made from scratch, but we sourced a lot of NOS panels via Adrian Bailey Classics, who must know more about Bedford spares than anyone else. I couldn’t believe some of the panels he managed to get his hands on.

Hi there what a rotten vehicle, I mean we all like challenge but .... Ok if this was a VW T1 Barndoor or a Samba or even an early T2 or a Westi it would be done but walk away here and get a better one. Here in Germany a CF Mk 1 with discs and a 5 speed absolutly free came up and if I did not already have a Westi and Transit Mk1 I would have been very keen. A CF is very seldom here in Germany walk away and fins another nice challenge BR Here the Westi Berlin and the MK 1 V 6 Tranny

I like the news paper, have seen chicken wire, bolts in sills made of filler and telefon books made to look like nice replacement panels alloy sills fibreglass sills 2 a pillars welded over each other or 5 layers of sheet metal even horse shoes in the fibreglass sill so that the magnet test was successful even carboard boot floors with nice new carpet on top BR

Like all the others above - Wow from me as well. If it was really cheap I think you really should flog some bits and trying to make your money back and offload it.

If you can do the work yourself, you've nothing to lose by starting. Pick a section, cut it back, repair it. A sheet of mild steel is cheap, so it's not until you start on areas where you absolutely have to have a genuine panel that it starts to get expensive, and by that time you'll have more of an idea of whether it's viable or not.

Genuine panels hahahaha 😉 Sorry, made me smile. There are a few period pattern ones around still and someone is making (poor) arches and sills but there good enough if you cant make your own. I did see a genuine complete rear side last year though!

i think its fine, all it probably needs is an entire new CF fited to the wheel trims and it will be golden.

We managed to source genuine NOS parts for the following:
Rear Arches x 2 Rear Doors x 2 Front Door Steps x 2 Front Rocker Panels x 2 (The front arch inner & Outer Complete from step to wing) Rear Lower Quarter Panels
And someone who was making parts from the original patterns:
Sills (Good) Rear Valance (Excellent) Connecting Piece from Sill to rear arch (Rubbish - had to virtually rework it from scratch)
Everything else we had to make from scratch.
