Hi all, I need an engineer's inspection carried out on a car I own.
Basically what I need is an independent person to look at the work that has been done to see if it's up to standard and give a estimate on how much it will need to put the car right.
I have had a quote of £390 from a local company.
Does this seem okay? Does anybody know anybody who does this or had it done?
Many thanks in advance ☺

I think much depends upon who wants you to have the inspection carried out and for what purpose.

The purpose being twofold firstly so I have an idea of where I stand with the car and secondly with a view to legal proceedings.

Many thanks in advance ☺ Having knowledge of why you are asking the question you need to appoint the right assessor with the correct accreditation, there are loads of vehicle inspectors & examiners out there that capable of assessing a vehicle for resale, lease returns and general run of the mill stuff - they wont have a clue on how to go about the report that you need The assessor / engineer you need to appoint / instruct is someone that is experienced & qualified in handling a dispute / faulty workmanship claim - it also helps if they have some experience in the older / classic vehicle market - this is whom I would recommend www.eliteinspections.co.uk/ It would not surprise me if the cost is in £300 - £400 region either - these are highly qualified engineers - it may appear that you are throwing good money after bad at this stage but if your case goes legal you need concrete ammunition to work in your defence - don't be fooled by thinking that a cheap engineers report will cut the mustard - a decent solicitor will drive a rusty wheelbarrow straight through it.

Thanks for the link. I'm not really looking for a cheap report, more as you suggested a comprehensive and credible report whatever the cost. Have you used the company you have recommended? Thanks

Thanks I have used them once - several years ago and they were invaluable - resolved the issue just by producing the report - I then claimed my expenses & the cost of the report back from the idiot that I was dealing with - had to take him to small claims court though - not an experience that I want to go through again.

Thank you. I have just emailed them the details. I see from their website that they do specialise in this area. Thanks again Anthony
