Ive got a bmw that ive fitted a b230a volvo engine to. Its got volvo engine and bmw management and parts on it. So the power steering pump has been mounted on the volvo engine. Now when i fitted the motor, it had a pump i was not failure with. Its this one a luk pump
SO i ran the motor with fluid in it, and but the car was not on the floor, but i think i had connected the lines up the wrong way. This in the pic is the way i changed them to. I thought it was pump failure so i changed the pump. When i connected it up on the second pump the pipes where the other way around, and it kidna worked but spat its fluid out, and made loads of noise.
SO i changed the pipes around again,, and i can see the fluid circulating, but there is no assistance on the steering at all.
coudl i have damaged the rack? Is there something I'm just obviously missing? I cant use the original pump i had on the m44 as its different nose length.
thanks

Have you bleed the system? I've found that sometimes I have to really rev the engine while going lock to lock to get it to bleed the air out when the PS system has been completely drained.

You've tried both ways and one way seemed right and the other was firing fluid out, so I'd assume the first way was right. Probably just needs a good bleed.
Top the reservoir up to the correct level, start the car and keep going from lock to lock, it should start getting lighter after a few goes. If it's being a bit of a swine to bleed then rev it up as you go lock to lock. This helps push the air out of the system. Keep checking the fluid level and top up as needed but don't over fill it because it needs space to move up and down as the steering moves.
Without the system being bled it will act like the power steering isn't working at all.

well i n that pic the pipes where wrong i found out tonight, i disconected the outlet pipe from the pump and put it in the rez and no fluid came out, so i swapped the conections over and fluid came out!
So then its like its got lots of air in it, but it dosnt want to bleed at all, had it on a jack for 10 mins and on the floor for 10 mins lock to lock. Its doing something but it sounds like its really aireated.
Maybe there is a pipe problem or something
