I have never posted something that big but have dropped something that big of. I took the day of work (due to a 1 day flue..... ) and dropped it of. The postage costs paid by the buyer were good enough for me to do a drop of and keep some dollars in my pocket. Would that work for you?

I sent a mint condition tailgate from a mk5 escort I was breaking to a guy up north, packaging, bubble wrap, tape cardboard and tape used, I used ups and they collected it from me at work, helped the ups guy load it in his van and of it went, got a call from the buyer to say that when it arrived it was damaged, He sent me some pictures of the tailgate and it honestly looked like it had been thrown down a flight of stairs! Every corner bent and the HRW smashed, I was really hacked off with ups and gutted for the guy who bought it, I won't ever send a panel again due to this,

Check out www.parcelmonkey.co.uk/Input the dimensions and weight. Away you go they use all the major couriers and find the best deals. I sent a pretty heavy parcel to Sweden a while ago and parcel force/royal mail wanted like £150 on their own website and in person. Parcel Monkey charged me about £40 and i dropped it off at my local post office for Parcel Force exactly where i had a quote previously for over 3 times the price. Got there nice and safely. Edit, to add onto the damage during transit queries. Wood. Use scrap wood to build a frame or something slightly bigger than the bonnet and use that to protect the edges from bumps.

I wouldn't use parcel monkey if they paid me to deliver my stuff. Very poor experiences in the past.

The only way I can think of is in a wooden box pallet, if the bonnet would fit. You could then get a quote from a pallet courier from UK to Aus such as Paisley Freight. I can't imagine it would be cheap at all.
In my experience a lot of couriers refuse to take car panels because they inevitably get damaged, and that's just within the UK. I dare say your bonnet would arrive bent in half by the time it reaches the other side of the planet.

I send hundreds of parcels all over the world & tbh something like a bonnet & the other bits you mentioned are probably not viable to send to Oz. It would be very expensive. The only way it might work would be via ship. Takes around 6 weeks but loads cheaper obviously, if the guy is happy to wait. Many in the thread have mentioned, ‘wouldn’t use x’, ‘wouldn’t use z’ etc. Again I’ve used dozens of carriers over the years, it doesn’t matter one jot who you pick, all of them at some point or other WILL bust, break bend or damage something, it’s inevitable & like it or not, it’s normally because it’s not packaged well enough. Don’t think for one moment ANY delivery driver/warehouse operative or anyone else who handles your precious parcel gives two foooks what’s in it or what you write on the side. You can put fragile, glass, handle with care, whatever you like, it won’t make one iota of difference. If send something by courier work on the assumption it will be dropped from the height of an artic trailer onto the concrete at least 6 times before it reaches its recipient & box it accordingly & you’ll be about right

No help I know but I wont send any panels now for all the reasons stated above, they will get damaged! If you want to make a timber box you might find you can only use specially treated timber to stop bugs getting a free ride, I think Australia is really hot on that
The other option might be to cover it in plastic sheet, put it in any box and fill with expanding foam, you can then take it out of the box if you need to and wrap in the 600mm wide shrink wrap?

There is a company called Seven seas shipping that service the Southern Hemisphere. Couple of Aussies that were out here for a couple of years and went back used them. Must be cheap ...😂 I used them to get parts for my Rx 2 back from South Africa. Cannot remember exactly what it cost, but it was not exorbitant.
