Hi;
I am trying to undo some Hib Nuts (front and rear in both sides of the car) on some old Mini Metros. The cars have been sitting around for 15+ years and I guess they will be stubborn, but which way do I undo them? Are they standard lefty loosey on both sides?
Thanks

Pretty sure they are standard thread. They should be castle nuts with split pins if it's an old A series engine one.

Probably just stuck, try cleaning up the threads soak them and possibly some heat although mind the straw, find a way to stop the hubs turning and then a long breaker bar or impact gun. The front ones are supposed to be done up to about 200lbsft so it might take some shifting.

Just look at the thread. You will see if it's LH.

There's definitely a LH thread on the rear hub on the one side and IIRC the front are both standard threads.

Heat is always a good thing for shifting rusty nuts/bolts. In the past I have also drilled the nut down one side and split it with a good hammer and chisel.

I though all Mini's/Metro's were the same but apparently from 82 all Metros had LH threads on the nearside rear. If the one you have is early there is a chance it's been changed for a later one anyway. Sorry I checked the Haynes manual I have but didn't read the supplement at the back, sorry.

Yes this might be an option - cutting it off without damaging the thread on the Hub?
